Mine aren't that much. I only want 3 Salmon Faverolles. lol.
But I would end up paying the same or more if I drove and picked up 3 somewhere else.
And the $25 is before shipping, so my 3 chicks only take up $10.
There's another $15 worth of chicks.
And you don't have to pay anything. I'll pay NOT to have to keep all the extra chicks lol
But the faverolles won't ship til 07/09.

Almost done re-painting my nesting boxes!
I think they'll be done by this weekend.

Is there any reason I SHOULDN'T paint the inside of the boxes?
Like, the bottom wasn't painted before and it started to mildew....
(My father in law made them, so I don't know what type of wood was used)
I thought they'd be easier to clean too, in case of an "accident", if I had a coat of paint down, vs just the porous wood.

OK i don't know when these are supposed to ship but can you order me 4 birds? 2 male Broad breasted white turkeys (they seem to have a waiting list for all the heritage breeds

) and 2 Cornish rocks? Thanks again are you sure you don't want anything?

Hey everybody hope everyone is having a good day.I moved to the odessa midland area and I'm wondering what people who live around here do to keep your flocks in this heat?

Nothing special just regular water available all the time. They need to acclimate to the heat just like they have done for hundreds of years! That's just me and my birds. I know others really baby their birds, but I only want hardy hens that can take the heat.

Just so you know you have to order 10 turkeys from ideal. They will not ship any less I have tried to get them to.

Anyone know anyone in Lubbock area? I'm trying to find a place for some cockerels that I can't keep any more. I don't have the heart to eat them either.

Just wanted to give you a heads up. Most people who will take your cockerels will kill and eat them. So knowing that if I was you I would do it myself. I know there are a few people here that can not seem to process their own chickens and I understand that to a degree. But it's a way of life if you eat meat someone had to process it. It's the same thing if you hunt or go fishing. I know it's because you raised it but you should keep on mind what your going to do with any that you can not keep. I have two turkeys that are almost ready for processing here in a few weeks and the wife is already starting to say maybe we should not. They are board breasted White turkeys and they are like the Cornish rocks. They will not live past a year or so without problems. That's why I got this breed knowing the wife! Just wanted you to think about what will happen when you give them away. If I lived closer I would take them and do it for you so you could have the meat without doing the deed.

I agree, we processed 4 of our cockerels when they started fighting and attacking the hens, and goslings. They tasted pretty good. For people in and around San Antonio, I would be happy to show how to do the killing come method and processing of chickens. The hardest part is getting a handle on your emotions before beginning. The birds can sense your emotions and if your upset, they become more difficult to handle, you have to be calm so the bird stays calm.

Now that one of my Easter Eggers has begun laying, I'm dying to know which one. I've thought about @Starfire669 's suggestion of dying their vents...but I'm not sure I want to get that personal with The Ladies (before I have to).

Maybe I'll just keep an extra eye on 'em and see who's sneaking in the coop, mid-day, to add to the egg pile. Either way, I'm glad to say it's a lovely pale blue egg (though the pic make it looks greenish). Looking forward to more shades of pretty eggs yet to come.

Sometimes when nobody else is laying yet you can tell just by looking at their vents. You will know when you see it trust me. Of course this still requires getting awfully personal with a chicken.
