Our newest addition, Maddison, Maddie for short, a harlequin Great Dane. If you stand on one foot, tilt you head to the right, rub your tummy and squint a little, her shoulder markings look like a Great Dane.

Jasmine, who crawled into my lap all on her own, such a sweet loving girl. And yes she loves playing with my hair band when it's on my wrist instead of in my hair, lol. My shiny ring is also irresistible to her.

One of my buff Orps just ran by with a small snake in her beak. Lol. Snake hunting anyone? The crowd following her were pretty intent on stealing her prize!
One of my girls got a small garden snake the other day. They only ate the head and picked at the body here and there. When I moved their tractor to a new location, I discovered it, but my mini-pin Harley swooped in and devoured it quickly. lol

Sometimes when nobody else is laying yet you can tell just by looking at their vents. You will know when you see it trust me. Of course this still requires getting awfully personal with a chicken.

Getting personal with them has become a lot easier with all, but one, of them squatting for me. I can pet them freely, pick them up (without chasing them) & even herd them better. I might take a look if the curiosity gets too bad...but for now, my family and I are taking bets as to who it is.

I haven't had chickens in a very long time, just my ducks these past few years and a couple of Toulouse ganders for a while. On the whole, I don't find the ducks that noisy. Certainly not like a crowing rooster! The drakes are very quiet as only the girls actually quack. There is usually one that is loudest and complains all the time. But, not THAT loud. Also, my Saxonies are quieter than my Welsh Harlequins. I don't find them much trouble to take care of. Just clean up the duck house every morning, put out feed, put clean water in their waterer and change the water in their kiddie pools. Takes about a half hour. They tend to poop around the pools, so I wash that down every day. They will find any little puddle of water and do their best to dig to China - just fill it back up with dirt. I don't know why people think they are so messy, as it's not like chickens use little chicken toilets!

They will eat grass and seeds and bugs and snails and lizards and small frogs and small snakes and mice and leftovers. Best thing for cleaning out the fridge except for pigs!

Get some - you will love them, I promise.
Well, I have very CLOSE neighbors, and not a ton of space. I'm not opposed to them. But now may not be the best time.
It was probably a flighty idea anyway. I was trying to get my Ideal order up and I was browsing their ducks, cause they're more expensive than the chickens...I love the way the Blue Swedish look! lol

OK i don't know when these are supposed to ship but can you order me 4 birds? 2 male Broad breasted white turkeys (they seem to have a waiting list for all the heritage breeds

) and 2 Cornish rocks? Thanks again are you sure you don't want anything?
I'm having issues checking out..but it seems like my connection or the website, not to much the quantity.
It DID say to check the description for turkey minimum orders, but I couldn't find anything..
I'll try again when I get home.

Ummm coming to Houston anytime???
Don't know when yet, But I'm sure I will be!
I'm down there a lot! lol

Now that one of my Easter Eggers has begun laying, I'm dying to know which one. I've thought about @Starfire669 's suggestion of dying their vents...but I'm not sure I want to get that personal with The Ladies (before I have to).

Maybe I'll just keep an extra eye on 'em and see who's sneaking in the coop, mid-day, to add to the egg pile. Either way, I'm glad to say it's a lovely pale blue egg (though the pic make it looks greenish). Looking forward to more shades of pretty eggs yet to come.

I have no problem checking butts! I do it at least once a week..make sure there's no mites, messy feathers, and nothing funky going on. Lol!
We're on good terms

OH MY GOSH...what a sweetheart....love those eyes!
A couple down the street as at least 3 that I've seen: 2 fawns and 1 merle

Sounds like I should get up close & personal with The Ladies.

I know they can't enjoy it, but even my "meanie", the top of the pecking order, will hold still while I check her vent and legs.
Paranoid of the creepy crawlies..haha

Someone said you an tell if a hen has been laying by her vent...I have 2 that are so close, I wonder if they're laying in the yard and hiding. Could I compare them to my laying hen? Is it obvious?
I honestly haven't checked since she started laying the weekend before last. Guess I'm behind lol
