Does anyone in the Salem (or very close surrounding area) have non-hatchery, high quality laying breed hatching eggs? I'd love to find Barnevelders but am very open to any breeds with super fluffy plumage and very colorful roosters. My 8 year old's Barnevelder roo had to be euthanized today and...
I'm in the midst of cocci treatment with Corid myself. I've never dealt with it before but after having two hens look like they were on death's door suddenly, I narrowed it down to cocci after much research. They have perked up considerably and seem to be back to normal, and hopefully we are in...
Does anyone here have the Ador1 automatic chicken door? If so I'm curious about your feedback using it in our wet Oregon weather.
I purchased ours last spring. It worked awesome through the summer and fall. Then the typical rain and fog came. We are rural outside of Salem, and get lots of fog...
Yes. Just in two ladies I bought a few days ago...which I now believe is appropriate to say I rescued (long story)...though I don't know enough about worms to say what they were. It just made me start to wonder what others use. I did one round treating for roundworm cuz that's all my feed store...
With the type of weather we have in Oregon, mainly wet (well, obviously not right now, but overall through the year), curious to know what you have found to be the best wormer for poultry? Input and advice welcome.
I'm in the middle if trying to treat an egg bound chicken. I'm at the point where I'm thinking I should give her antibiotics, but what can I buy at the local feed store (Salem/Silverton/Stayton stores)?
So far for the last 8 hours we've tried and not been successful at getting the egg out...
I'm on the hunt for good quality chicken feed...what do you use? I recently switched from Rogue to Buxton feed, but I cannot stand the smell of the Buxton feed (of all things!), especially if it gets damp. My chickens carry the scent since they've been eating it too. I don't know what...
Anyone near the Salem area have a Frizzle chick available? My son really wants one, and since we have just acquired 3 layer chicks just days old, now would be an ideal time so it can be raised with a group.
Wow, LeslieDJoyce, that's a beautiful piece of property you have there. I'm not a morning person by any means but if that was the view I got I'd be up early enough to welcome the sunrise sight with my coffee too!
Wow. So I lurk here often. I love this site and the wealth of info I can find here. I don't, however, love the drama. It is a complete turn off. Makes me sad that people are so mean to others they may have only met through a computer screen. Would love to see this remain a site to come to for...
On a long shot I'm posting here to see if any of my fellow Salem or surrounding area Oregonians might be able to help me out, or know someone close by who can since there are many enjoying country living here. I'm on the prowl for an old, ugly, totally unsightly 2 horse trailer. You know, one...
Salem area - did anyone see the backyard chickens article in the Statesman Journal today? I can't access the article text online cuz I keep getting a "your 7 day free trial has ended" response, none of my neighbors get paper delivery, and I JUST got back from the store but totally forgot to...
There are certainly "bubbles" of Salem I choose to avoid, but I live in the southern part and luckily I don't have to leave the area often as south has all the stores I need, etc. There is some beautiful country on the outskirts at all directions for sure though.
I've seen it in the feed stores here in Salem so I'd check your feed stores in Florence because they very may carry it. Rouge Feed /grange co op's site might list retailers.
I've been using the Rogue All In One poultry feed from the Grange Co Op milled in Centeral Point, Oregon. My chickens are about 17weeks old. I'd love to heard the feedback of those more experienced than I on this feed choice.
