On the topic of mean roosters, my Legbar roosters have never been aggressive. The adult roos I have tend to be very skittish, but this little cockerel (6 months old) lets me pick him up and even let me get really close to take pictures. He was so good and just stood there. I think chickens are a...
I took some pictures of my second generation of Rees Legbars. My goal with this generation was to improve body type. As a reference, this first photo is an example of a first generation male:
And a first generation female:
As you can see, their tail angles were higher than I'd like...
Thanks!!! Those were the primary reasons I picked him. I also like the small amount of chestnut and cream saddle feathers on him. He was the best of the bunch. I still have some things I want to work on, but I'm quite happy with my choices so far. :)
Hey everyone! Here are some updates on the Legbars I've kept for breeding. Sorry about the grass in the way. It's been very wet and warm which means the pens are a jungle. Lol...
I've already culled over half of the birds I started with. I plan to keep culling to get birds closer and closer to the standard and also with reliable autosexing. So, I will be culling these two as well. For those of you wondering, by "culling", I don't mean I kill them all. I just don't use...
I just want to warn you that this post will contain a lot of pictures. So, it may take a long time to load for some of you. Sorry that I've been away so long. I've been working full time, doing two therapy trainings with the State of Michigan for work, finished a stressful semester of school...
Here's my most recent hatch of Rees birds. One is hard for me to sex (the one with the dark small v on its head). It seems male, but has lighter color chipmunk stripes and that small v spot on its head. What do you all think?
Thanks, everyone! It is definitely hard to lose him. He's been around for so many years and such a great personality. He will be missed a lot! The neighbors always love to hear him, my sisters and parents have known him for years, and we all loved that guy. He was such a sweet and precious donkey!
Sorry I've been gone lately. Seems like this thread has really taken off while I've been away. It's hard to catch up. I had a couple of very busy weekends and then my donkey died. I had him since high school and he was already several years old when I got him. He lived a life spoiled with lots...
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! That detailed explanation of each male was exactly what I was looking for! Number two has better barring than the picture shows (he's the most flighty so it's hard to get a good picture), but he also has, by far, the worst tail angle. Number four doesn't have a crooked toe...
Back to the issue of pictures. I need to do a MUCH better job of this! I'm glad for all the suggestions! I want to make the breed better and better and I rely heavily on advice of people on here. By the way, @chicken pickin , the other day when I posted pictures of my main male, I posted the...
