Been in the upper 90's for like two weeks, and we've only had like five minutes or something you might be able to call 'a sprinkle' the whole time. My plants are suffering, even the established trees. The tree in my neighbor's front yard is dropping leaves like it's fall. I'm desperately trying...
Finally over that covid nonsense. Japanese beetles found my yard finally after 7 years or whatever, so I set out some bag traps and it's disgusting how many they're caught.
My current goal is to cut down all the little mimosa trees in my front flower beds and use the brush killer on them. So I...
Both, lucky me! I made it four and a half years before getting it, at least?
If I can drag myself outside I do need to go pick some of my wild blackberries. Right now I'm sitting with a constant low-grade fever and my joints hurt too much to do a lot of moving around. At least I have my indoor...
I have done...absolutely nothing outside for like two weeks now. My dad mowed my front lawn for me while I was on vacation last week, and kinda mostly took out my baby Persian shield and almost took out some of my hostas (in his defense, I didn't warn him about any of those plants being in weird...
lol if only!
I found the first ripened wild blackberry on my bush today! Definitely tart but really not bad. It'll be good mixed in with other berries for baking and such.
Still trying to rescue one of the crepe myrtles in the back yard from the honeysuckle. Had to take a break yesterday to cut down a mimosa that had come up from out of nowhere and was flowering. NO. Bad mimosa!
(They are non-native and very invasive in my area. A previous neighbor had a HUGE one...
Yup, luckily I had some on hand so I didn't have to make a quick run to the store. So far two of the cuttings are looking pretty decent, but it's only been a few days.
Well I was bamboozled, what I thought were wild grapes of some variety are actually porcelainberry :(. Very disappointed. They're all entangled in my red mulberries so it's going to be fun getting rid of them without hurting the trees.
Didn't do anything for my 'garden' today. Just cleaned out my gutters and disrupted an ant nest in the process (it's...been a while since i last cleaned the gutters...). Fun. Checked on the fruit trees, I'm a bit worried about the peaches. There's two left, the rest were duds, but one has one...
@fuzzi Aw, at least you were able to save some though.
Neither the purple heart nor the small rose were particularly meaningful to me. The irises that are all around them are, as they came from my grandma, but thankfully they were all dormant when the siding was done and they bloomed again...
Finally have some peaches on my tree! And apples, which came as a surprise! One (the sheepnose) has definite baby apples on it, the second (Dry Creek pippin) has some likely apples starting, the third (early transparent) was hit really hard with cedar apple rust last year and is still recovering...
We finally had enough of a break in the either-stormy-or-blistering-hot summer weather today that I was able to mow my front lawn, including around my pumpkins and squash that I threw in the ground along the side of my house. I'm so pleased with how well they're growing despite (because of?) my...
All my outdoor plants seem to be doing well. The early transparent apple tree got munched on by some bugs or another but I think I got that under control. My irises, daylilies, and roses haven't bloomed very well this year :/ too hot. I picked up some late additions from someone who had too many...
Got one flowerbed weeded this week, now I just have to tackle the other one...
I was gifted a bromeliad (a guzmania I think?) for my birthday so that's joined my baby aloes on my dining room table, which seems like it's going to become a plant table eventually.
My lemon verbena resurrected itself, which was a nice surprise! And all my irises are blooming, which is also nice...though I really need to clean up the flower beds...
Need to trim back my catnip bush, it's like 3 feet diameter now! Whoops lol
The peppermint survived the winter and has taken over the second raised bed. May just let that bed be the mint bed rather than try to fight it.
I extended the flower bed on the side of my house and finally got some...
My baby sheepnose apple tree now has baby leaves! I'm so proud of it! The other two trees are being a little slower but they're in slightly shadier parts of the yard so I'm not too surprised. The little peach tree is very leafy already. Wouldn't surprise me if it tried to make a peach or two...
