What did you do in the garden today?

I decided to post a picture of my 2nd youngest grandson. He's autistic but so intelligent and he figures stuff out. We went to the lake yesterday and I brought a knee board with me and after falling off for about 15-20 minutes he had it figured out. He kept using his arms to paddle to his mom and then back to grandma.View attachment 3859783
He's such a cute kid!

I had my grandson for the weekend, so got much of nothing done. And the weather has been unseasonably cool. Feeling like fall.

I have gotten some debugging done. I've switched from soap spray to neem oil, and it's working marginally better. My kale, that had been covered in cabbage moth caterpillars, is reviving since covering with netting. I threw my hands up on pole beans and peas. Screw it! Some of my pumpkin seedlings (mostly Cinderella) are probably beyond saving. The leaves are almost gone. I wonder if it's too late to re-sow. Today, I will start a BT regiment on my squash plants.

My green stalks are producing pretty well. They are my saving grace. They are up on the deck and have less pest issues.

Did late night mowing after work yesterday. Maybe my body was tired after hour and half of push mowing but I got water in gas from washing hands! Ugh 😑 guess what has to be fixed now…

I finally weeded the corn rows! Filled a wheelbarrow which I gave to chickens to process! Some weeds were so established I had to cut w scissors bc afraid harm corn pulling up!

It was very satisfying to see squash bug grub try to flee and the chickens get him!

Treated garden w Neem bc rise of aphids. Does anyone else get dive bombed by bugs when spraying w Neem or soaps?

Trying again w the moon flowers. Believe I did too early and frost killed.

G’morning all. We’re under a heat warning for the next three days. I’m sick of the heat already. I was surprised yesterday when I went to put out ice blocks and Attila had two chicks. I didn’t think any would hatch, and the babies are tiny but out and about with mama. One little fully feathered red one I’m naming Phoenix and a little Nn I’m going to call Aetna if it’s a girl. So cute! So far everything is still making it, but I’m going to move the pepper plant into the shade garden today. The tote it’s in is black and that poor baby is looking rough. I took the temp of the soil in the raised beds and it’s close to 100 degrees near the walls, but about 80 in the center so not too bad. I’m going to put some shade cloth around one of them to see how that impacts temp.

I have done...absolutely nothing outside for like two weeks now. My dad mowed my front lawn for me while I was on vacation last week, and kinda mostly took out my baby Persian shield and almost took out some of my hostas (in his defense, I didn't warn him about any of those plants being in weird places). One of my wild grapes is doing quite well, and I plan to plant it in its final place in the fall. Peach and apple are still growing. One things go dormant I need to get the peach tree up and replant it on higher ground.

Other than that, I'm holed up with covid now, so the plants will just have to deal with themselves for a bit.

I was wondering if BT would work on maggots. They are a larva. Next time I have fish guts I will give it a try. First zucchini female flower bloomed yesterday. I thought there would be a male flower but no. I used pollen from the day before. :fl Hardly any skeeters. My efforts to control them are working. Lots of earwigs. My next battle.

I'm trying Sluggo Plus for earwigs. I sprinkled some in the garden yesterday, so time will tell if it works.
