What did you do in the garden today?

I did a lot of watering yesterday, so none today.

I found some red nymphs on one of the squash plants. I knew they weren't beneficial, so I squished as many as I could. Looked them up, leaf-footed bugs. I also found some squash bug eggs, took them to the chickens who appeared to eat them, with the piece of leaf they were attached to.

Now I need to go freeze all the beans I picked over the weekend.

I gave my poor melon starts some Alasaka Fish fertilizer - something's got to help the little buggers or I'm not going to have any melons this year.

My celery is doing so well, can't wait to taste it! Almost ready to pull one.

I have never seen a marigold this big, I have no idea what I bought because I hate the smell of marigolds so I just closed my eyes & grabbed whatever was there. It's giant.

Speaking of giant - this dill stalk is wider than my thumb. Going to harvest some tomorrow, the caterpillars haven't found it yet.

The plants are really liking the GreenStalks, I must say. I put a lot of work into the soil for them, they should be happy.

I need to re-seed (AGAIN!) the melons and the beans. It’s a tough start to the year - I never have this much trouble!!
It's so frustrating this year!
I harvest the outside stalks as I need.
Oh cool, thanks! My first time growing it. I actually have too many & they're taking over the GreenStalk - I didn't expect ALL the seeds to germinate. Every single one. :gig But I can't grow a dang melon plant this year to save my life. 🙄

Oh, I got another 25 bare root strawberry plants planted. They were the sale from Stark Bros. They're June bearing so next year I'll get berries.

I decided to post a picture of my 2nd youngest grandson. He's autistic but so intelligent and he figures stuff out. We went to the lake yesterday and I brought a knee board with me and after falling off for about 15-20 minutes he had it figured out. He kept using his arms to paddle to his mom and then back to grandma.

Around about the 26th lecture, the words just fall into place.

At one point I think he realized that he was rhyming and just laughed and kept trying to teach chemistry.
He sounds like a FANTASTIC professor.

My uncle had a phrase: "It's the singer, not the song."
I need to weed my garden sooooooo badly. But it's so. hot. outside.
We'll be getting that in a couple days. I need to dig out my neck wrap cooler thingies.
SWEET POTATO slips arrived today!!! We’ve had black plastic over the areas we will plant these for a week, so I’m going to plant despite the cool temps tonight. I figure the soil will retain some heat bc the black plastic will stay on the ground.
Uh oh. I totally forgot about pre-warming the soil. I have some sweet potato chunks I've had in water to sprout. (I've kind of forgotten about them too.) I have to get those in the ground!
I have never seen a marigold this big,
I have a variety called, "CrackerJack." They get to be about 3 feet tall. I plant them around the garden every year to help keep the bugs away.

Now if they'd keep the bleepin' critters away, that would be fantastic! I'll be replanting beans -- again! -- too!

Good Tuesday morning! We did finally get rain overnight, the sun is shining but it's so sopping wet, with too many flies buzzing around. Aren't they annoying?! Land on poop then buzz around trying to land on me, my face...oh no you don’t, you nasty bug! I know I should weed, but asthma is kicking my butt right now. DH said I was snoring & wheezing all last night, said he has to wake me up 2x. I was exhausted, never even heard the thunder or rain. Think I will do in-house chores, pickle some eggs, laundry, get the wheezing & coughing under control, definitely pull weeds around 11am. I gotta do something about these darn flies, set up some fly traps. I can rub some Lavender oil on my arms.
