How are you? That is tough to say. I know different birds mature at different rates, and that can follow strain, etc. Out of the four male siblings of hector, the male with the best type has the least tail development so far, but not horrible. The other three have more tail development, but...
I hope it is ok to post this here, but at least one of Hector's brothers is starting to crow here as well. Not sure which one, but it is really deep. All of them are doing well. I think they miss my son. He spoiled the while he was here. I did not have to do a thing, he fed and watered them...
I think 1muttsfan is correct. I think this pairing will give you similar results as Rex and the Stukel hens did, except you may see a chick that lo Delaware. But I do think all black chicks will be female, but some female chicks will be barred.
These BR chicks here are growing like weeds...
I know incubators in general, but I just recently went from a 25 year old Hovabator to an almost new Dickey. But I did not panic, and things turned out better than I expected considering the outage. My son is excited. I had lunch with him yesterday, and told him about the activity to that...
Out of the original 16, only 14 developed past the first few days, but yes, 11 have hatched so far. And yes, they are very strong babies. I will try to get pictures later.
So far, all four of Rowena's eggs have hatched, and seven of the ten eggs of the older hens have hatched. The last three could hatch, but not sure. Even so, not bad, especially with the power outage.
Sorry for all the updates. So far, five of the eggs from the older hens have hatched, another starting, and all four marked Rowena have hatched. There are four more that could hatch.
So far, there are three chicks from the ten eggs from the older hens, and another one almost out, and one chick from Rowena. So, hopefully the power outage did not have any effect on the hatch.
Today is hatch day. I checked earlier, and two had pipped. So, hopefully everything will go well. I only have them separated by the older hens and Rowena, mainly so I can see if there are any differences as they grow up. Seeing the progress of your five has me excited.
I still have hope, and will move on like normal. Things were going great until then. Yes, Wednesday night has me worried also. Hopefully if we can make it to the weekend, they are predicting it to warm a little.
I candled the eggs again late Sunday night, and the 14 were still developing great. But, last night my power was out for just over 6 hours, so I hope they still make it. If they do hatch, it should be in roughly a week (set late Monday night on Feb 2). I hope all is well up your way.
I candled the first time on Sunday night (I had set the previous Monday night). Of the 16 eggs set, I saw development in 12 eggs, two eggs I could not tell (difficult to see through the shell, but I think I saw veins), and two eggs had faint blood rings. One egg with the faint blood ring was...
I am sorry I talked your ear off today. My son and I are both excited. I hope the new (to me) incubator does well. I have been using a Hovabator I have had for over 25 years. I ordered it when I was in high school, and it had the fan and the auto turner. I was starting to have trouble with...
Thank you. That would be great. I was just thankful to get the two that I have. My son and I are enjoying these two. I think the barred cockerel is nearly the same size as some of the cochins that are 6 weeks older. Granted, the cochins grow slowly, and longer, so the cochins will most...
If it had been a pullet, it would have been a bonus. Hopefully I can hatch at least one nice barred pullet next year, and go from there. Like I say, these two are looking good I can't wait to see how they eventually turn out.
