I remember reading The Grapes of Wrath in high school. Was not one of my favorites...lol I didn't like that or The Yearling. I loved To Kill A Mockingbird and Of Mice and Men.

That's Texas. When I looked up the guidlines collectively- for Texas it said that you didn't even have to notify of your intent, (but that if your kids were previously in public school you might to give them a heads up...lol)

I totally agree. It doesn't do any good learning something without knowing how it applies to real life. And then you have the kids that don't test well, but know the stuff. We haven't had to test yet. Our requirements are written so that you don't have to do standardized testing until 4-8 on an...

Texas is one of the 22 no/low requirement states for homeschooling. NY is one of the top 5 high requirements for homeschooling. I think a certain amount of checks and balances are good because it holds parents to a certain amount of responsibility, but states like NY I feel take it too far. I...

My son hates writing too... but it is great when you can find activities to help with lessons. We are working on multiplication. We started at the end of last school year, and that's where we picked up at the start of this year and we have incorporated so many games that it doesn't feel like a...

It seems as though they have removed the important things to fill it with nonsense. (Half being how to take standardized testing.) Not only did our elementary cut cursive but they cut teaching them how to read an analog clock because almost everything now is digital. SMH

We have not started cursive yet. I do plan on teaching cursive, but we too are still working on penmanship, so I'm not pushing it for another year or two. I don't remember learning cursive till about fourth grade. He still writes on the big side and I want him to have better control over before...

Yes, we just got an Ipad this summer and we've done a few stories through the trials on the apps and a couple of online sites, but I haven't really researched much for ebooks , thanks for the recommendation. We used the Brain Quiz workbooks as a supplement for the last two years. I didn't...

I love to read and always have. He doesn't take after me...lol His dad reads for fun when he has time too. He just stresses with reading. Fluency is just not where I'd like to see it. He has to read short stories aloud and then we read a chapter book together daily. He likes the Goosebump...

We just started back this week. My boy is only 3rd grade and reading is his hardest subject. I've heard a lot about the moby max program so we are going to try to incorporate that into our lessons.

NY doesn't have the k12 yet. Homeschooling is not for everyone. Some kids need the school structure. I am not one of those that believe that everyone can, everyone should and every parent can do. My oldest niece graduated from homeschooling and a year early. Her brother had to be put in public...

We're one of the most 5 restrictive regulated homeschool states. I keep saying I want to move to Texas...lol Not because I disagree with checks and balances. I think a certain amount is good. But dictating everything from hours to days to when you have to test is what gets me. I don't even mind...
