The Hatch That BYC Built (aka Frieda vs. the Brinsea!) (Warning--pic heavy)

Take a wild guess as to why that's the name Yep, very happy about finding a home for the extra companions--we were at Notepad's Clover Sprouts meeting, and the moms got chatting... Even better is that, although today was the last Sprouts meeting, the lady that wants chickens later will also...

The Hatch That BYC Built (aka Frieda vs. the Brinsea!) (Warning--pic heavy)

Thanks! My 7-year-old had a tiny stuffed animal she was willing to sacrifice (I told her that it'd get tossed, most likely) so Fudge has something to cuddle with under the pad until I get chicks on Friday. And I already have someone that will buy the extras in a few weeks! And I will have enough...

The Hatch That BYC Built (aka Frieda vs. the Brinsea!) (Warning--pic heavy)

Fairly clean eggshell. Is this just unabsorbed yolk? Doesn't hang down far enough to get stepped on, there's no one else to peck it, and I'm using a puppy pad. Do I still need to do the cup thing? Under the MHP

The Hatch That BYC Built (aka Frieda vs. the Brinsea!) (Warning--pic heavy)

So... Do I get a week-old companion tomorrow, or a newly-arrived-at-the-feedstore companion on Friday? Of course, I could call the other feedstore, too, and see how old theirs are... FB is worth a shot, too (this time of year, I don't have time to make a day trip out of getting company, so it's...

The Hatch That BYC Built (aka Frieda vs. the Brinsea!) (Warning--pic heavy)

I heard a peep! Just one, and it wasn't very loud, but definitely coming from the 'bator. Hearing it was made even better by the fact that my 7-year-old has set up a stool and pillow by the incubator, and I was afraid it'd be for naught.

The Hatch That BYC Built (aka Frieda vs. the Brinsea!) (Warning--pic heavy)

OK, checking what time I set the eggs makes me feel a bit better--it won't be Day 20 for 4 and a half more hours. I've been listening to the incubator very closely (a toilet paper tube may or may not have been involved :hide ) and even found a chick peeping video to play, and there is silence...

The Hatch That BYC Built (aka Frieda vs. the Brinsea!) (Warning--pic heavy)

Huh, there is no emoticon on the list that covers having a brain fart! Oh, well... I locked down a day early The aircell is, if anything, a little big (likely because I wasn't paying attention to the humidity, since I was so sure that I wasn't going to have anything to lock down anyway--and...

The Hatch That BYC Built (aka Frieda vs. the Brinsea!) (Warning--pic heavy)

I'll admit--I was dreading tonight's prelockdown candle. I was pretty certain I was going to be announcing that we were done. Sometimes, I like being wrong! My one egg is completely full of darkness below the aircell, and may even be drawn down (the cell is a little wonky). It was actually the...

The Hatch That BYC Built (aka Frieda vs. the Brinsea!) (Warning--pic heavy)

Day 14 candle--I might maybe have one egg developing. Nothing smells, though, so I'm leaving everything in so that the maybe egg can stay in the same position. Aircells are a little big--probably because I've been using dry folded paper towels to keep everything snug. Lockdown is Friday. I...

She blinked her inner lid at just the wrong time. The youngsters' eggs plus one: What the heck--all of today's eggs:

The Hatch That BYC Built (aka Frieda vs. the Brinsea!) (Warning--pic heavy)

They're all three girls, and all three laying--the leghorn mix just started this past week, and her white eggs are getting bigger pretty quickly! The dark blue is the biggest of my birds now--can't wait to see how big she gets! I'll get a pic tomorrow so you can see

The Hatch That BYC Built (aka Frieda vs. the Brinsea!) (Warning--pic heavy)

Well, at least I know that it's not from a dirty incubator, with all the fresh hydrogen peroxide I use :gig

The Hatch That BYC Built (aka Frieda vs. the Brinsea!) (Warning--pic heavy)

Last time, the PO was much kinder *sigh* Probably be a good idea to get some local eggs next time to make sure it's just the PO messing things up, though...

The Hatch That BYC Built (aka Frieda vs. the Brinsea!) (Warning--pic heavy)

Day 7 candle. No pics, partly due to phone juggling--I can't find the flashlight I was using last time. The aircells look good. I had 2 seepers. Neither, oddly enough, was one of the dirty eggs. I cleaned the residue in the brooder with hydrogen peroxide. The dirty eggs: one looked clear...

'Tis a good thing I'm not superstitious--lockdown will be Friday the 13th

I just realized that last bit came out wrong... I meant, if someone didn't know us, it could read as taking potshots on both sides... Mm, yum, tasty foot!
