Thought I'd post a concoction I made tonight that is a great degreaser - 1/4 c blue original dawn 3/4 c baking powder 1 t vinegar mix all together (it will be thick like cake frosting) and using you hands rub on grease and let sit for awhile. I used this on my drip pans on my stove. And...

Came across this article tonight - for anyone looking to save money on groceries, it is a good read. The article was written in February but has a lot of great points. http://www.getrichslowly.org/blog/2011/02/02/fight-rising-prices-by-building-your-own-food-bank/

Quote: I am just jealous that you can shave in the shower. Me shaving includes a bowl of hot soapy water, a chair and my foot against the wall. I can't even shave in the bathtub! Course I am 6'4" and it is kinda hard to keep balance. We don't eat many beans or rice - we eat food that we...

Quote: I don't think you understood...this is NOVEMBER and I haven't bought detergent since MARCH. $40 for a case is high yes, but I am talking like 5 cases in total. I said I still have a case left. I will be making my own detergent when I am through with this, when I bought this though I...

For coupons- you can buy and sell on ebay. I have done both. You are not technically "selling" or "buying" coupons but you are selling/buying the time that it takes to cut and organize coupons. If I need to stock up on things I buy 20 or so of the same coupon. I did this for laundry...

Quote: I haven't had any problems with ants yet (knock on wood) but a friend does and she puts weather stripping (the kind with an adhesive backing) along the edges to make it seal better. We use to have more weight issues when we bought pre-packaged foods, now that I cook everything from...

Our local Amish stores sell sugar in 50lb bags. I put it in Those rubbermaid tubs like you can buy at walmart. We don't have a basement but we do have high humidity here. I find that the Amish store prices are cheaper than the big warehouse stores. But maybe that is just my area.

Quote: or buy a slicer. you can get them for a reasonable price. With a slicer and a Food Saver you can be pretty frugal. Half thawed meat slices well and seals well too.

Quote: lol it is 45 outside right now and I don't have any heat. The fire was out when I got up this morning and the high today is 60's so we don't need heat. We don't normally build a fire until the outside temp is below 40. We only heat with wood.

I meal plan by the month. I don't always follow it to a T but I get close. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1UVkj-pN009Y0vgON09mLGnfhXo8TUcHRGzMUvhRIPQM/edit?hl=en_US I have a lot of items on hand at all times. I can, freeze, and dehydrate. We also have our own beef and chickens in the...

I haven't bought deodarant for over a year I get it free or SUPER Cheap. Degree will often have a $1 or a $0.75 off coupon in the paper and the travel sized ones are usually $0.97 or $1.00 at Dollar General or Walmart. I have over 30 in my stash now. Same for shampoo- I use the coupons and if...

I always prepare for the what if within our means. If I come across some really great coupons, I try to get my hands on as many of them as I can and stock up. Which it has been for the better so far. I can and freeze a lot of things, prefer to can though in case we lost power or our freezer...

a few frugal tips that I do: save old candles and dryer lint--makes great fire starters. Instructions- use the paper egg cartons (when they aren't sturdy enough to hold eggs that is!) stuff holes with lint, pour hot wax over them, repeat making sure that there is some lint sticking out over...

We have more DAV thrift stores than goodwill. The goodwill stores seem to be really pricey- I am not going to pay $2 for a faded Garanaimals shirt when they are $3.50 new. We have one DAV store that is called Red Rack- on Sundays everything with a purple tag is $0.10 and orange tags are a...
