Living life on the edge (of the incubator) hatch-a-long

I had taken out 5 racks so they had that whole area with a rubber mat, but lo and behold, that large black one somehow crawled up on top the three racks of eggs in there and splatted itself right on top of them. Your chicks are so unruly Tink! The silkies didn't do any such thing! ☺️

I go nuts reading things like this. Back in the day, I'd use it for dart practice. I sort of rather do it like you do. We'll see what we get when they hatch, sell some, keep the unique, find out we were disillusioned and sell those too lol.

I had hatched him from my own pet quality chicks but he was so unique so I saved him and raised him with these fancies I bought. He turned out to be a rooster so I gave him away.

I tend to think it'll be a silver splash. My mauve chick (Piper) looked like a very pale chocolate, almost tan. Mauve can tend to cover a wide range of tones though. The yellow ones I've had are usually white chickens. He was butt ugly as a chick lol.

Ah, there's where the light ones came from then I bet. I think that solves the mystery!

So gorgeous. ❤️ I think that silver/gray might be a blue. You said one dad was a leaky blue so maybe this is his, but then who's its mother as surely it's not a chocolate. The others, I dunno as they look like they are partially bluish/grayish too. I would hang onto those just a couple...

I am by far a geneticist lol. I just go by the color combo list. If they are silver, they could turn gray/blue, but I'd tend to think anything light you have may turn splash. I don't see how you get light chicks from a blue roo and a chocolate hen as those should be Blue pullets, Black...

Living life on the edge (of the incubator) hatch-a-long

It's so hard when others are pipping because I'm afraid I'll make more problems. Is hubby there? Perhaps the humidity is high right now? Or raise it by 10, then he opens the end up, you reach in fast and grab that one and he puts the lid down fast. Repeat when you have to set it back in...

Living life on the edge (of the incubator) hatch-a-long

I think you could market this! It's an outstanding idea! I usually have no need to keep chicks separated but it would come in handy for sure if I'm hatching my pet quality with my fancies as some of the pet quality will pop out a fancy one. Also, way better than those bags I bought that...

I don't know either as it seems I'm never right lol. I count the set day as Day 1 if I set in the morning. If not, then the day I set doesn't count. So if Day 1 is on the 1st of the month, and they hatch in 21 days, they should hatch on the 21st day. But mine start pipping on the 19th...
