ah cool. black sex link huh.
not sure if i'll get another roo. i liked that rodney was quiet. i do want my girls to have some protection though. i was thinking i have room for another hen without a roo now LOL!!!!
yeah he's still gone
i still got my chic chic chickens though! i finally got to see them go up and roost at sunset. i never saw them in action. so cute!
yes there are animals around. dogs no but neighborhood cats yes. that was another reason i like having the roo! and he didn't make much noise either!
that makes me afraid to get another roo. i don't want the neighbors ticked off at crowing in the early morning.
omelette'smom: are your...
yeah all the eggs seem the same. i have a fenced in yard but the fence is only 4 foot high.
i tried the eggs this morning. YUM! the only way i could describe it is they tasted more rich.
i'm quite sad. i haven't seen rodney in three. days. of coarse this is the first day i;ve been home...
i'm trying the eggs tomorrow haven't caught the roo yet. i haven't seen him in a few days. yesterday i didn't see him anywhere, and two days before that i left for work before sunrise and got home after sunset. he hides well and it has happened before where i can't find him and then see him...
here's a question:
why do both of them freeze almost everyday right around 5pm for 20 minutes or so? they just stop moving. sometime slowly sitting. it's kinda creepy. then they peck about again and roost shortly after.
anyway, got another egg again today. 4 in 4 days!
got home around 8pm tonight. yep they roosted all by themselves again. and i had 2 eggs there also! both big and brown. one could be from yesterday. don't know as i didn't check yesterday.. i've had them 3 days and i have 3 eggs
i didn't check for an egg as the door panel in the back open it up more than just the nest box. didn't want them not feeling secure on their first roost night.
they do have a waterer and feeder. it's been 2 days and the waterer isn't even half empty yet (1 gallon) and the feed thingy i only...
well i guess they don't like me doing it then!
i had to work 8am to 5pm today so i didn't get a chance to spend time with them. i checked their food and water in the morning and everything was great. they were milling about at 7 am already.
so i get home about 15 min ago and went to check on...
has anyone else had problems with their hens not knowing what to do on their first sundown in the coop? the little dark one kept trying to roost on the top middle run support. but the chicken wire stopped it every time. it'd climb halfway onto the ramp and jump flapping like mad. the barred...
awesome cool, good to know, that's what i though
this is too much fun. he comes out right up to the run and just stares while puffing up his feathers. too funny!
i just sat out there for a half hour watching them. forgot to bring the camera. woops.
So today i woke up and of coarse first thing i do is look outside. Three is Rodney, beak up against the wire. Flapping his wings every thirty seconds and pacing! LOL
but when i went to take a pic he darted off. i'll catch him in the act later.
i also found THIS:
my first egg...
oh forgot to mention...
before i left to pick up the hens i whipped up a quick 12x12x12" nesting box with a 3" lip or whatever on the front. took all of 15 to 20 min or so. yay scrap wood!
thanks all for the comments!
can't wait to look outside tomorrow!
really need to get some traction...
HOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i got Rodney 2 hens today!
:weee:clap:
i got a $25 tip so that sealed the deal. i feel i basically got these hens for $15 total with the tip lol.
one is a barred rock and the other she couldn't remember at the time. they had mixed breeds, bantams, biggy's, weird...
chickenpiedpiper:
LOL at the string through a window thing as i was thinking the same exact thing yesterday!
if i get an email or call back from someone i found the $20 chickens from i might get 1 now and another next week (moneys low after building the coop lol)
hope i didn't startle him...
as promised here's the video
also, just found someone who has several different type of chickens and in the same city also. here's their response.
"please email your number, my computer is slow.
we have several types of chickens $20.00 each and roosters $10.00 each.
buff orpingtons...
finished his coop and run! it's set up with food in it and water, and bedding. i made a trail of scratch to the open door then a bunch more inside.
i tried to get him to come out and see if he'd come closer and go where i threw food. he's been doing that the last couple days. but not...
yeah i would love to find some hens sooner than march, but then i'd feel bad about not buying from the other lady. She's not down the road but about 45 min drive away. so can't really borrow a hen that easy. If that was the case that'd be great.
Yeah i figure he's about 1.5 years old from my...
