    Cheryl's Hen House...

My oldest grandson who is almost 3 has been calling me Chicken Grandma. My husband was not amused when he got referred to as “Chicken Grandpa”. (The birds are mine and mine alone 🙄) He is now lobbying to be referred to as “Motorcycle Grandpa”. 😂

We are doing well here. We have acquired 4 grandchildren over the past three years. Grandchildren are great; I highly recommend them!

Hi Terry! :frow I was just thinking about you the other day and wondering if you still kept chickens. So happy to see an update. Your flock is looking really good!

That's great! You said you hoped to find some other breeds soon. Nice that this guy had some you liked.

No kidding! I got way more done when the kids were young then I do now. I don't even know how I managed to raise 5 kids. I certainly couldn't do it now.

Hi Terry, nice to see an update. Yeah, chicken keeping has its ups and downs. Just this morning there was a ruckus in the yard and I went out to investigate. I found one hen way up in a tree, and another one is missing with no sign of her. I suspect coyote, but hawk is also likely. Of course, it...

Oh, kids with their dog! Not great, but much less sinister than humans sneaking around at night. :) I wonder if it is the same dog now, coming back to a place his kids introduced him to.

Hmm, sounds like a human to me. IMO sneaky humans seem more sinister than a stray dog behaving naturally. Not that stray dogs are safe or anything.

Yikesies! I hope you can find and eliminate whatever did that! Your littles cramming onto the top rung remind me of the song that goes: there were 5 in the bed and the little on said "roll over"... Eventually you're going to have only one left as King (queen) of the pole, and she's going to be...

    Cheryl's Hen House...

Definitely! One time I was out front weeding. They built a new neighborhood all along our east property line. The whole time I was working, I kept hearing a dog barking. One bark, over and over incessantly. I kept thinking to myself "man, those people need to take their dumb dog inside the...

    Cheryl's Hen House...

Aw, that's too bad. I thought that might be the case, seeing as how you rehomed your last year's cockerels.

Are you allowed to have roosters where you are? Because if so, you might find you enjoy having a rooster.

Thanks, Terry! You know, your "stripper pole" looks more like the jewelry trees my husband made our daughters for hanging their necklaces on.

    Cheryl's Hen House...

Yay! They are cute! That's funny, them all crammed together. Pretty soon they won't all fit, and the low dogs will have to go down a rung. It will be neat to see how the older hens take to them. You asked how I was... I'm a grandma!! He was born on Good Friday!

That's a great space you made. Very nice that your run was large enough to do that. They will be able to get to know each other through the wire, and then introducing them should go pretty smoothly. Plus you can use the whole chicken yard space for intro day. Can't wait to see the new ones!

    Cheryl's Hen House...

Yes they are! A group of mine seem to have decided not to use the nest boxes at all. There are at least four that I can pinpoint whose eggs suddenly stopped appearing a week or so ago. I've looked high and low and cannot find a hidden stash. I know at least one of them is still laying, because...

    Cheryl's Hen House...

Hi Terry! I was wondering how your hens were doing, and whether the rest of them had started laying yet. Yeah, it's that time of year when we all get the itch for new chicks. I wasn't planning to start my incubator up this early, but one of my favorite girls got taken by a hawk last week, and I...

This is great. I always love the things I learn from the way you do your projects. Removeable plastic curtains, clamps that metal conduit can snap in and out of, I'll bet these can come in handy for a lot of people. It's all looking very nice, Terry.
