What he's doing is obviously not illegal in Canada. He's been doing it for over 10 years and has been checked out by the authorities. In your opinion, he's stupid, while you have pet raccoons yourself. π

Oh no! That's obviously not the most animal friendly place, or at least the ordinances are way too strict. I've never heard of anyone needing permission from any Humane Society to keep cats and dogs.
Yeah, that's going to stop a lot of people from getting chickens. This all actually goes back to post-WWII and the creation of the suburbs. The suburbs were the anti-thesis of the farm, and nothing is more symbolic of farm life than chickens. Many soldiers during WWII were "farm boys", who...
That's true! They can be trapped, however, and taken away. In addition, some places now are allowing a limited number of chickens, when they haven't allowed them for decades. More and more people are trying to get ordinances changed so they can keep chickens.
I do understand what you are saying, but it's not "criminal" for a wild animal to hunt and eat. It's just causing you and your own problems, and you are killing it for causing you those problems. But I do truly understand your desire to protect the animals you care about.
Wrong person. I don't tell others what to think, or how to live, or how to post in public forums. Just as I ignore advice from those who tell me what to think, or how to live, or how to post in public forums. We all judge. You are judging me in your last post, in case you didn't notice. We...
Yes, I assumed you lived in a state where you could keep wildlife as pets. In my state, you absolutely cannot, although people possibly did back in the 1950s and earlier. Concerning food sources, keep in mind the presence of chickens and domestic ducks can certainly bring predators into areas...
Thanks for your sincere replies. That's what forums are for--talking to one another about topics that concern us.
P.S. When I first went online in the early 2000s, I know I once read about raccoons being sold in pet stores in Minnesota, which I thought was utterly unbelievable!
I understand you need a license and such to keep a raccoon in places where it is allowed, but certainly did not know the specific details. Why are raccoons, which are wild animals, allowed to be kept as pets in the first place, though? I'm not talking about rehabbed ones that can't be...
Personally, I let the cats handle any rodents that come out of the canal and go under the house. The cats do the best job of natural rodent control. They don't even have to kill them. They just have to stalk them. I also don't think domesticated animals have a superior right to exist over...
My post wasn't intended to argue about animal rights. All animals have to eat to survive, including many times eating other animals. That is how nature is set up. There is a food chain. Unlike humans, animals aren't sitting around thinking about what to eat or not eat. Their choices are...
How ironic someone who likes raccoons enough that you have pet ones tells someone else to "dispose" of any raccoons caught on the property. Do only pet raccoons have the right to live because they are owned by someone like yourself? It's totally illegal in many states to have a pet raccoon.
Raccoons are obviously living in your area, and they like to eat a duck's esophagus, as well as ducklings and duck eggs. It really makes no difference if your neighbor feeds them or stops feeding them. They are there and probably were there long before you were, and probably will be there long...
