Neighbors are feeding wild raccoons, now what.

You're not allowed to own 2 cats AND 2 dogs.Only 2 of one and 1 of another. If you have more than that the HS does a home visit and if they approve the 4th animal you get to keep it!!!They hide these details in their ordinances and won't tell you what the ordinances are.You usually have to hire an attorney just to find out what they are unless you file a Fredom of Information Act then they have to.But they'll still try to charge you up to $3.00 a page to get a copy when under the Constitution(per state)they are required to send it to you digitally or email(free)
Sounds like the kind of thing that only gets dusted off and enforced when someone becomes a problem or another resident complains. As in they don't expect most residents to know about it, its just convenient to have in the statutes to resolve disputes.

It seems like an acre of land would allow you to have more animals than the smaller lots. At least, that's how it is where I am.

They don't want John Q Public to know the ordinances(we might actually obey most of them) I keep searching for the Promised Land where chickens are legal but its a hassle!!!:jumpy

Our neighbors are feeding wild raccoons and the raccoons eat my ducks! They have never got a chicken (so far) we caught two of them and killed them (obviously) and we hung the raccoons tail on the ducks cage, it seems to keep raccoons away (for now) so the first time a raccoon came it was because we didn't close the ducks cage all the way and it got two khaki hens and hurt Shadow duck now she only has one eye and she needed surgery. The second time we were camping and the farm sitter didn't lock the ducks up so a raccoon got one of my two favorite khaki drakes named Juneau. (luckily we brought Shadow duck camping with us!) The third time (and hopefully last) a raccoon came and got Pierre and one of my hens, he was my favorite duck and my last drake! It was right before we went camping so the farmsitter sold us a mixed drake and my hens LOVED him, we named him Fenix. We know our neighbors are feeding the raccoons because we saw some cat food out so we asked our other neighbors if their neighbors are feeding raccoons and sure enough, they said yes! Our other neighbor likes raccoons and even has a raccoon welcome sign right by their doorway.
Your neighbors are jerks. So sorry for your loss.

We use an audible alarm set to raccoons and other such animals and it helps a lot. Our dog chases raccoons, too. There was a while when we used humane traps and had a raccoon relocation program where we released them > 10 miles away. That probably would not be a hit with your neighbors. Would they reconsider if you gave them eggs?

It appears you have been given some good advice. I didn't read this whole thread yet. My computer is soooo slow. My suggestion is to get a picture of the sign that says "Racoons are welcome here" so if you have more issues. Just putting cat food out, the property owner can say they put it out for their cats. Pictures are worth a lot even of the dead ducks (documentation). I have several cameras up on my property. I love my cameras. You could always try to trap the coons and then contact a wildlife rescue and they will take them to their release areas. Good luck...

What he is doing is illegal in many states and Canada. Think it's cute but most of those animals will have to be put down because him being an idiot and training them to to be dependent on him. He and you might think it's cute but once they start trying to do it to that to his neighbors and the coons get aggressive over not being fed everything is his fault.

Still love my 2 fluffy pet coons but hear those coons growling, they are about to the point of attacking. Been there and have the scars. Hell "tame" coons can attack and both mine have me. Why I make sure they are ok before my son plays with "his" girl.

Morons will be morons and as much as I hate stupid laws sometimes they need to be placed to protect people because others want to be stupid. That video is a prime example of stupid being stupid.
