    Egg yolk color Experiment

Lol I can say they at least don't taste fishy. They taste similar to the organic free range eggs I was buying at the grocery store but you can absolutely tell they are nice and fresh. No increased gas to date lol. I hard-boiled some last night so I'm curious to see how the color holds up to...

Also we use Tony's Chachere's here instead of old bay. My two year old won't eat anything that isn't seasoned :lau No bland food in this house.

That had crossed my mind too. When I was a kid my grandparent's neighbor had ducks and chickens. He always asked us to give our crawfish peels to them and they absolutely loved it. Can't recall how their eggs looked though.

    Egg yolk color Experiment

Unfortunately I ate all of the paler eggs so I can't do a side by side blind taste test. I CAN however say that I eat with my eyes first and these darker yolks are certainly appealing. Although one friend called them "borderline alarming" lol. A couple of them have been a little radioactive...

I absolutely think paprika would work just as well. If you have it on hand, use that first!

    Egg yolk color Experiment

I would definitely agree it's played a part! I've only given them carrot peels a couple times though. The only thing that has been consistent every single day is the cayenne and the free ranging so I can't completely discount it. I would have to do a control group and I don't want my only two...

Yes lol, ground cayenne pepper. We go through a lot of it here for ourselves. Please post your results to see if the cayenne alone would do it.

Sure thing. The first one is altered, but actually is more accurate. In person they're very vivid but I'm not great about getting good lighting.

    Egg yolk color Experiment

Yes! I would love to know if cayenne is the main contributing factor.

Also it's such a tiny tiny amount of cayenne I'm really surprised at the drastic results but that's definitely listed as one of the things that helps. Just a sprinkle.

    Egg yolk color Experiment

I agree. I'd say that plays the biggest part. Hard to narrow it down since I made several changes to their lifestyle at once. Also the carrot peels I've been feeding them are from my black nebula carrots from the garden they stain my hands and mouth purple every time I mess with them so their...

Thanks! I was very impressed with how quickly I could alter the egg color with a little tinkering.

    Egg yolk color Experiment

After a year of posting on this site and reading every article I could on chicken rearing, I have finally acquired my first two hens. Given to me by a friend who is moving. They came to me exactly one week ago today with a 50lb bag of dumor layer crumble. The very next morning I got my first 2...
