My first Fox attack that ended in a kill

I don't have a rooster. I've had two in the past. One turned into a real maniac. He was not a problem to me, I thought he was kinda funny. But he TERRORIZED my wife and daughter. So he had to go to freezer camp. Then I got a BO roo in with my second batch of chicks. He was a good rooster as far...

My first Fox attack that ended in a kill

I have wild geese and ducks flying all over the place here at this time of the year, and the chickens pay no attention to them. Also have big buzzards, again the chickens pay no mind to them either. But, let a hawk or an eagle screech out, instant attention and movement(Sometimes amazingly fast...

My first Fox attack that ended in a kill

Around here, the crows are a benefit to the chickens. They actively drive away hawks. And my birds have learned the crow's hawk warning call. I've seen them myself react, look around and head for cover, when the crows make a certain call. They,(The crows) have never harassed my birds. I don't...

You would need dynamite, if you wanted to dig a pond out in Col. What you could do, get some concrete block, and build a short wall a couple of blocks high. If on a slope, build one end higher than the other. Put a liner of some kind in there, back fill some dirt and stone to the top of the...

My first Fox attack that ended in a kill

I remember the day we had our first fox attack. We had gotten away with letting the birds freerange for almost a full year. They were let out every day to wander to their heart's content. My daughter came home from school one day, and usually she was always greeted by the chickens, they would...

My first Fox attack that ended in a kill

Where does you husband work, at the local PETA chapter? I'd tell them to go P up a rope. What you are seeing, is the BarneyTheDinasaurification, of America. This pollyanna way of looking at everything, instead of reality. What you did, with that fox, was totally justified. YOU are right, that...

My first Fox attack that ended in a kill

I knew you would get that fox. He was, key word WAS, very stupid, or crazy brave. He could not just sneak in a grab the bait and back out this time. Jack

My first Fox attack that ended in a kill

Yeah, this fox doesn't seem to respect or fear anything. Man, I WISH the fox I have around here would come up to my porch and just look at me. They would not live to do that a second time. Just last night I hear our resident foxes out in the woods calling to each other. Unmistakable call they...

My first Fox attack that ended in a kill

That's another good point, sometimes you have to adjust the sensitivity of the trigger, either by bending or filing (Sometimes both) the trigger's trip. You want it to go off easily, you don't want to have to put 50lbs of force on the trigger plate for it to go off. Jack

My first Fox attack that ended in a kill

You have to WIRE the bait to the back of the trap. When you do that, he can't just pick it up and back out. When you wire the bait in, the animal,(Hopefully your fox) will get frustrated when he can't easily grab and remove food/bait and he ends up stomping all over the trigger plate. I use...

My first Fox attack that ended in a kill

I have hawks around, but (KnockOnWood) have not had any loses to them. I've even seen eagles flying over the branch/creek back in there. My birds seem to be really tuned in to airborne predators when they are out. They know what a hawk sounds like. They'll get under the coop, or hide in that...

My first Fox attack that ended in a kill

I seen a clip on YouTube, that had a guy call in a fox with a compact mirror, and a piece of styrofoam from a cheap cooler. He just rubbed the styro across the mirror three or four times., paused, then repeated. Then, you see this fox coming across the field, he squeaked the mirror again, the...

My first Fox attack that ended in a kill

I've had a couple of run ins with the fox here. The thing about fox attacks, is that they WILL take more than one if they have the time. I lost 7 one time and 9 the next. My advice, since this fox of yours is so brazen, stupid really, is for you to get a REAL gun and blast the thing into his...
