Awww, I can totally understand your issues with processing. My daughter has special needs, so she likes the chicks hatching, but loses interest after that...we are taking baby steps in getting her to feed them, and water them. I think the processing will never be on her list of things to do...
That is funny, my daughter wants nothing to do with it. My folks live with me. My father killed the roos, I plucked, he gutted. He would kill and bring them to me, while I was plucking that one, he'd go inside. When I was close to finishing the plucking, he'd come out kill the next, then...
Ouch, that's a LOT of processing. I've been lucky and seem to have mostly pullets. I know I have several roos that I'll have to deal with, but I"m not a fan of processing. I found a place that will do it for $3 a bird.
Ok, I had stopped hatching for several months - didn't have any babies - none. Everybody is actually laying eggs....
But then I hatched some silkies over Thanksgiving, then bid on an auction and hatched those over New Years. Those chicks are all outside! My bathroom was CLEAN!!!
Well...
I've had some funky heat spikes in my LG and still hatched the eggs. It really depends on how long the temps were high. 102 isn't that high. You should do great!!
It's funny, I've hatched about 18 eggs from my Ayam Cemani roo, with my white/black EE hens. 17 of those chicks were born looking exactly like ACs. Black EVERYTHING. But yesterday this one hatched....it still has black skin and black leggs, but it's feathers and beak are certainly not black...
It's true, I am amazed how they develop and hatch in just 21 days.
It had zipped about 1/3 of the way around the egg, but never pierced that outer membrane. It just pecked the shell off. The chick was HUGE inside the egg, I'm guessing it didn't have enough room to move around. . I never...
So adorable!! Congrats!
Those are gorgeous eggs! Can't wait to see the babies! I'd also be interested in a few of the bcm eggs when you decide to sell!
Not all my quotes came through! I'm sorry for the dropped eggs. 2 days to hatch - unless you see blood, I'd just keep the humidity up...
I am QUITE a bit south of all the northern CA folks. Our ground is pure clay and there really is no water drainage ability to it. It's just slimy. Our coops are all dry, but the runs are only partially covered, and they are nasty. We really haven't been able to clean out the runs because...
Like Feedman77 said, blankets work. I've heard that some people put the incubator inside a box that is just a little bigger than the incubator. Doesn't need a lid. Some folks just pile clothing around it. Make sure you do not cover all the ventilation holes though! They need air flow...
Welcome!! I"m so sorry about the dog incident. That's got to be tough. I hope her chick hatches!! I do the same as you, keep the humidity down until lock down. It works great for me.
Leave them in!!! I have had chicks hatch on day 23 and 24. Next time you hatch bump up your temp a little bit. Late hatches like this mean that your temps might have been a bit too low.
Good luck!!!!!
Hi, I have eggs in for a NY hatch. But quite a few of them were a gamble because they spent 3 weeks lost at the post office. Well, I've pulled 3 stinky and 1 exploded. For the ones I've pulled, I've been adding my backyard mix eggs. So, those were set last night, and this morning. So, I...
