BLUE ISBARS - Pictures and discussion

Congratulations on your hatch! The pullets will be easy to tell once they start laying - the Silverudd's Blues (Isbars) will lay green eggs and the barnyard mix will lay brown eggs. Any barred birds are barnyard mixes. Other than the barred ones, the cockerels may be difficult to tell. If you...

I hope the cockerel grows up to look just like his uncle! What are they mixed with? Do you have any current pictures? Welcome to the club! Those that have been blessed to know the 1st import almost always prefer it to the second. It is hands down, no contest for me. The first import is much...

My last 2 that just started in December were about 28 and 30 weeks old when they started. The ones that mature in the spring and summer usually start to lay about 18-20 weeks.

Very pretty! She is starting to redden up and her wattles are growing, so it shouldn't be too long now. I would say a few more weeks and you should be looking for some pretty green eggs.

Congratulations! That is a beautiful green egg! If you think that is big for her size, just wait a while - you ain't seen nothin' yet.

Sounds like you will soon have some pretty green eggs! I look forward to seeing pictures. It is not unusual for a new layer to lay a rubber egg. It may take a few weeks for all the apparatus to sync up. Just make sure your girls have free access to oyster shell or other source of calcium so...

BLUE ISBARS - Pictures and discussion

Though the green of the Isbar eggs may be different from the green of your EE eggs, don't count on it until you see them. The greens are all made with the same genes and it is the particular combination that each hen receives that determines the particular color. It takes a combination of brown...

BLUE ISBARS - Pictures and discussion

Isbars generally start to lay at 18 weeks or older. This time of year when the days are getting shorter, pullets usually take a few extra weeks to a couple extra months to start laying. Pullets that reach the 18 week mark in the spring or summer when the days are long or getting longer will start...
