Well, baby is growing up. No longer squeaking much at all, every now and then if I grab him he'll squeak, but mostly doing what I assume is growling followed by a muffled cooing sound. He's also getting the white at the base of his little beak and starting to get some pretty green and purple...

Mine is a 20. I'm going to work to get it more heavily planted before I bring anything else home to put in it.

My suggestion if you get one is don't listen to the pet store or buy anything for them that says "great for betta"... the tanks are too small, they need a heater and you cna't put a heater in a 1 gallon tank... i bought some bulbs that were supposed to be great for betta... they grow over 3 feet...

Pure white crowntail betta. I had him just over a year, but he was fully grown and fully finned when I got him so I don't know how old he was when I bought him. Buried him under my rosebush.

I think my bird is growing up! He's developing that white thing on his beak and he was either doing a very bad coo or growling last night when we were messing with him. On the bad side, the more he uses the bad wing, the more it droops, we will be taping it back up this weekend as it is touching...

I checked that link you sent and blood test is $19 and feather test is $23. I would probably do the feather test as the idea of intentionally quicking a nail weirds me out... Plus, I can probably pull feathers out of his chest easier than playing with nails...

Likely in the spring. That cage isn't big enough for more than 1 bird his size and I don't have anywhere better to put him. Also, any input on how to get him a buddy? I don't know what gender "he" is, and wouldn't it be better to get him a mate than another of the same gender? I'll look at...

Possibly, and he's mostly sedentary right now, he wanders around and flaps up to his water, but for the most part he sits on his perch. So he likely isn't burning many calories.

Well, I finally found something that Felix likes enough to consider to be a treat... Field Peas! There are some in his seed mix and he actually will lunge at them when I toss them to him. Still DOES NOT like peanuts... weird bird, he'll pick them up, but spits them right back out...

Yeah, when he's out of his cage I'm holding him or he's in the bath tub with the bathroom door shut. I know he wouldn't stand a chance with any of the basement cats, they would eat him in about 2 seconds... but Sparta is scared of him, it's pretty funny.

Yeah, if he left the farm, it's less than 50 miles, probably a lot less if he goes in a straight line. I went back to Pet-Co and lo and behold, they have small bags of dove food. So, I got him a bag of dove food and have been mixing the 2 feeds as the dove food does not have sunflower seeds...

Currently, his cage in my house is only about 100 feet from where he was caught, so homing back to his original area wouldn't...
