I'm never gonna get an egg!!!

Funny comments everyone.... Okay, so here is another in the "what were we thinking" clothing category. So how many of you have put on you work jacket to find a "pocket omelet" from a leftover egg you forgot to take out earlier? I can even do one better....I actually sent a hoodie through the...

I'm never gonna get an egg!!!

Yes Ameraucana hen. At 33 weeks of age (about 8 1/2 months), she is not out of the norm for Ameraucana. Ameraucana do develop more slowly, often not laying until 6 to 7 months of age, AND she is maturing now in the shortening day light hours. That means her pituitary may not get enough light...

I'm never gonna get an egg!!!

:lau That'll teach him to roll up the windows. We have too many chickens and neighbor cats to leave anything out or down....and we don't own turkeys now. Those buggers really get into stuff. Lofmc

I'm never gonna get an egg!!!

Oh my this thread has taken off...with a lot of fun. My Cream Legbar pullet, who is now 24 weeks old...or 6 months. NO EGGS. She is fat and sassy. No squat. Nothing. Oh well, maybe by spring. She has some conjugal nights planned with my Barnevelder rooster when she finally has her act...

I'm never gonna get an egg!!!

An Isbar is a Scandinavian breed and very different from a Cream Legbar. Isbar are not barred (not sure where the "bar" part comes from...probably something in the Scandinavian language). Isbar are rare (so rare that I had trouble with inbreed lines and will not work forward with them). They...

I'm never gonna get an egg!!!

First column is from my Splash Marans hen egg and the results of her being bred to my Barnevelder rooster. F1 is 1st generation. F2 is the egg results from the daughters of that line bred back to my Barnevelder (B) rooster. Second column is my Isbar-Marans hen (hatched from breeder eggs) egg...

I'm never gonna get an egg!!!

Yes...chuckle...I spared no expense. I only had kitchen paper towels on hand and a semi-working marker (I had to track down as people in the house keep stealing mine). I made it on the fly, setting eggs I had from the fridge, to show on another thread the development of F1 and F2 olive and...

I'm never gonna get an egg!!!

Really depends on the line. I had two sets of hatchery quality Buffs, and I got rid of them. They neither laid well nor went broody. Of the 6 to 8??? I owned (I've forgotten, it's been awhile), only 1 attempted to brood, and not very seriously. Some lines however are very broody prone and...

I'm never gonna get an egg!!!

For you @KikisGirls and for OP...the Silkie/Cochin eggs are about the same size as the smaller, young pullet eggs as seen in this chart of my breeding results. (The White egg is from my Cal Grey who lays a normal, large size egg).

I'm never gonna get an egg!!!

I adore my Silkies and bantam Cochins. I keep them for brooding and because they are sweet. Amazingly, when they aren't brooding (which is frequently), they lay pretty steadily. I don't have an easy access of photos of their eggs, but they are about half size. Sometimes my Silkies lay 3/4 size...

I'm never gonna get an egg!!!

Yes... @sourland Cochins and Silkies will take longer to lay...and lay maybe 2 eggs, then decide to sit on them to brood. Also, if you have bantam Cochin too, Silkies and bantam Cochins won't lay the full size eggs you see in the grocery stores. They have smaller, maybe half size to 3/4 size...
