Very sorry she didn't get any ducklings this go around. But she is young so hopefully next year. You have been wonderful to care so much. She sounds like she is getting over this ordeal now, hope you are too. :hugs
I am sorry missed your post about your dad. Hope he begins to feel better real soon. I am sure this has been a struggle for you. Bless your heart. :hugs
I think that is the best way just let her take care of it all. So sorry it's sad she sat this long without hatching any but like WV said they get over it pretty quick easier than us actually.
They should know all of this by instinct when to cool when to turn etc. Pekins not known for their broodiness I really can't say if they know or not, but I'd say they must because I have seen Pekins brood and hatch on here. Not a lot though...
Do you have a fenced yard? Ducks herd really well once they realize what you want of them. But unless you herd them into a house with a door they aren’t going to stay inside. They have to learn where safety is. Where you live with a hot climate any house they have is going to have to be well...
They are gorgeous boys! Ducks in the wild nest in all kinds of weather and I am sure bedding gets soaked it may cause some of the eggs not to hatch. If she decides to do this again I’d make sure she starts inside her coop.
That doesn't look good poor mama and duckling. I don't know what to tell you maybe she'll just take care of this on her own. All you'll need to do is clean out the nest area once she is finished and make sure she begins taking care of herself. She is so pretty.
I just don't know unless they are all dead and she is just disposing of them as she realizes it. I don't think we've ever had anything like this before.
Let’s get @WVduckchick here I haven’t ever seen one at this stage. Not sure how far along the duckling is although I can see down. Anything in the egg that is smashed?
