    March Hatch-A-Long

I lost track of this thread too! Well here are my March chicks, photos taken Tuesday. I’m trying to take individual pics weekly. The first 2 were hatched March 9 and the other 4 hatched March 23. ICB cockerel “Greg” ICB pullet “Clover” ICB pullet “Blackberry” ICB pullet “Cinder”...

    March Hatch-A-Long

My lot seems to be doing well in their outdoor brooder. The older two hatched 3/9 and other four on 3/23.

    March Hatch-A-Long

I started to set up my brooder pen today and decided to move it outside. I live in a really temperate area so I figured why not. It’s on my deck to provide some weather proofing, and an extra fence to deter overly enthusiastic dogs. I need to get a better top but it will do for now. The chicks...

4 weeks old, crest is starting to come in!

    March Hatch-A-Long

Happy for y’all with healthy chicks and hugs to those having not so great successes. Of my 12 set, 2 hatched and the chick with splayed legs that showed initial improvement is getting worse... so I went and got myself 4 more chicks! 3 Ice Cream Bar (Isbar x CCL) and 1 Marans x CCL. Thinking they...

    March Hatch-A-Long

I’m still trying to get a good picture, but pullet chick hides under the cockerel when she’s scared. They are 7/8 days old, and due to her crappy start he’s about twice the size. She seems to be doing well now.

So cute under the mama heating pad! I’m sorry to hear about your shipped chicks. Hope your hatchlings do well. I’m still crushed that I only had 2 of 12 hatch. I don’t have room for more chickens but maybe I’ll have the courage to try again once I can build a bigger coop. I think I’ll get a...

The ICB are supposed to be autosexing, males have a yellow spot on their head and females are solid.

Congrats! Are both your ICB pullets? Mine hatched 1 cockerel and 1 pullet.

But I think that means she will abandon the rest of the eggs? Are any still viable?

    March Hatch-A-Long

My cockerel chick is huge compared to the pullet that had a rough start. I guess that’s just down to the extra three days of normal nutrition he’s had. She’s doing great though! Her hobbles came off yesterday and by the end of the day you could hardly tell her legs were so messed up at hatch...

@Merrymouse For what it’s worth, it’s better to lock down sooner so the chicks can get into position. Good luck on your hatch!

    March Hatch-A-Long

My second chick is looking a bit better today! I took the tape off her feet and she seems to be using them almost normally. Now I just need her to eat.

    March Hatch-A-Long

I’m thinking that the leg issues are due to the prolonged hatch rather than anything genetic, since the other chick is the picture of health. Good news is that she is still fighting, did NOT enjoy it when I was holding her on her back and tried to bite me. Fingers crossed she will make it...

    March Hatch-A-Long

Welp, day 23 and only two hatched. I candled the rest and don’t see any movement or internal pips, but I put them back in just in case. Both chicks pipped on day 20, and the first one was fully unzipped early morning day 21. The other one got stuck at some point, I probably waited too long to...

    March Hatch-A-Long

Had to assist the second ICB hatch. No obvious pips or movement from the other eggs. Should I be worried about them? Today is day 22.

    March Hatch-A-Long

Yep, boys have a yellow spot on their head and the girls are solid or chipmunk striped.

Just one chick here so far, the second one is still working on it. This is a male ICB (Isbar x Cream Legbar)
