Well, the splayed-legged sultan finally died(I was expecting that), so I now only have two sultans left. I expect the one d'uccle with splayed legs to die soon and hopefully that will be it. Thankfully, the lone porcelain is still healthy, but who knows what could happen next. I'll just have to hatch some more. That being said, it's only the sultans and d'uccles that I'm really having problems with which I kind of expected from past experiences. The cemanis seem healthy and I expect some more chicks in a few days(and hopefully some goslings after that).
I started to set up my brooder pen today and decided to move it outside. I live in a really temperate area so I figured why not. It’s on my deck to provide some weather proofing, and an extra fence to deter overly enthusiastic dogs. I need to get a better top but it will do for now. The chicks seem happy. They have like 5x more space.
So, 1 hatched last night before we went to sleep. This morning i could see several pipped, but one pipped at the wrong spot and suffocated. I hope the rest will get out fine, i’m so nrrveuse because it is still just this one chick in there. 34 more to wait and see...
I've got Naked Neck mixes, and some silkie egg's in there (32 total), and today was day 7 so I waited until after dark tonight to candle. All 32 egg's are showing development. I'm glad that I decided to use this incubator that has the automatic turner in it. My other incubator wasn't doing well on my last hatch attempt.
Starting my 3rd round of incubation this year. Its day 4 now... Hoping for better hatch rates.
My first round had about half of the eggs hatch. My very last hatch, I only had 10/30. Not a good ratio for me. Plus I had 3 die on me because either suffocated in egg from yolk leaking onto it's beak, infected naval, or just a very weak chick. :T
Still also trying to figure out why my hatch rates aren't the greatest...
Here’s a picture of my March hatch. Still waiting out the weather to get outdoor pictures.
The one in the far back right was the one that almost didn’t make it. Today is the first day with the group and the others there have encouraged it to eat .
