Quote: YES! You get to participate in the September AND October Hatch-a-Longs! My first time hatching was just a couple months ago - 7 olive egger eggs from Wynette, too! (Excellent wrapping job for shipping; I was afraid I'd smash an egg just trying to get each one out of its bubble wrap!)...

All the great hatches and little ones just make me think more and more about my set eggs. I am leaving them in spit of my doubts because I am just not sure.

Beth G. : Quote: Hey there my egg pic above is of Wynette's FBCM's. They were way too dark to candle and I just left them alone. The one's I could see and were clear I culled. So far its turning out okay! My fingers are crossed for you. I know I wil buy eggs and try again. I just have to see...

Oh heck. Tonight is day 9 on my set eggs so I could not stand to wait until tomorrow and just candeled the eggs. There is nothing. No develomentthat I can see. But I can't see into the middle of some of the eggs, the shells are so dark. I just went and rewatched some Y Tube videos on candeling...

Quote: You are fortunate to have lots of room. Unfortunately I live in a much more suburban setting. Never will be able to keep a rooster so no breeding for me. Too bad really as I would love to breed. I have bred many different animals at various times in my life and would love to try...

Quote: What do you all do when you run out of room for all those extra chickens? I am just starting out but I really LOVE the idea of hatching. But I will be very limited to what I can keep in adult chickens.

Quote: I was told that hatching them upright in an egg carton really helps. Especially on shipped eggs it increases your odds for sucessful hatching. Haven't yet done it as this is my first hatch but thats the way I am planning to do mine at lockdown. Be sure you cut the sides down in egg...

Quote: Well, let's see if I can explain how they're doing. 2 of the five definitely show the BCM part of their heritage, as they're much darker feathered. The other three are fluffier and at the grey/blue/lavender end of the color scale. Two of the latter are DEFINITELY roos. I am so bad...

I have one of those cool light mini flashlight looking candelers. It does have the rubber sides and works great for fitting around the eggs. Mine is the IncuBright brand name. Didn't cost much at all.

Quote: Lesa, thanks for the tip on marking the iffy eggs. I would never have thought of doing that and then that would make it harder to spot the possible duds. I don't even know what I will be able to see as its hardto see thru the Black Copper Marans and Olive Eggs. Some more than others...

I read somewhere here to candle at 8 days , then read no do it at 11 days. So I am confused. I guess I will candle at 8 days or later. Ok and good to remember to candle before lockdown. I don't intend to try too much candeling as I really don't know what I am doing. Everyone's chicks are so...

Linda, thanks for the welcome. I have been lurking here at BYC for weeks and reading trying to learn alot. Since I didn't know anything about chickens when I started it really helps to have a place like this which is full of information. Yes, Wynette sure does pack well and they are such...
