Have you tried using a dropper with electrolytes yet? It's worked for 2 of mine. You can get it at TSC or get the Nutri Drench if you can. It's amazing stuff.
I think using an eye dropper with electrolyte solution I ordered from meyer is what saved my weak chick. I just gave her a few drops every 20 minutes for a few hours and she came around by the next day
Also a product called Nutri Drench for poultry. Life saver! I read about it here on BYC...
Sending you hugs... I can imagine how sad you are for them. The PO can be so frustrating and we all feel so helpless when things like this happen.
ummm, yes, there are countless people without a hatchery near them. Me for example.
I chose Meyer because they were the closest at 7+ hours away...
Is the PO far from you? I would go up there and talk in person. I usually get better results face to face rather than over the phone. If they see how you they will know how important it is and maybe do something about it. Ask to talk to the Post Master for the branch and they may be able to...
I just got mine from Meyer today. Shipped Monday and I'm only 7 hours away - still took 2 full days to arrive. And they don't update the shipping info with Priority
shipping. So it's only scanned when it leaves first PO and arrives at last PO. At least this is what my PO told me more than once...
I have always LOVED winter and snow. Having a fire roaring in the wood stove looking outside at the snow coming down. So picturesque. I wanted to to last forever... until now. I want it over and warm for my new babies!!!
I think because they are ordering in huge quantity they will stay warm from the body heat rather than me ordering only 15 they could get quite cold. Also, I'm sure they order extra so if some die they dispose of them and and it doesn't impact the buyer. If 5 of my 15 die I will know because...
If the Tractor Supply has them I would get them there. That way they are ordering in quantity and they should stay warm better and maybe arrive healthier.
Just my 2 cents!
I totally agree with your assessment and have heard sad stories about most other hatcheries as well. I always wondered that if newly hatched chicks are given the opportunity to eat/drink do so. I wrongly assumed since I read they 'don't need to' that meant they don't. Newbie here.... but now it...
I'm sorry the little marans died and thank you for sharing what Meyer tld you. I didn't know this was the first winter shipping 15.
How are the rest of the chicks?
I've never ordered chicks either OR owned any.
I would go in and talk to the people at the front window this week or next and tell them that you are expecting live chicks and the approx. date. Probably best to go in the morning and maybe you can even talk to the person that would actually do the...
Best of luck to both of us; or I guess our chicks. Ordering 30 will help keep them warm I'm sure.
Since I sell on ebay and use USPS I am in the PO almost every single day and they are all aware i am getting them in, have both my home and cell number and the girl that works the night shift said...
Clearly that was a PO mistake and they didn't want to take responsibility. How could it by Meyer's fault they went to a sorting facility 100 miles south of where they should have been? I deal with the USPS all the time shipping items I sell on eBay. I always purchase tracking and it is...
