Remember the silkie x silkie feathered ameraucana chicks? They're getting big!
My happy mama show girl, raising a few more silkie x silkie feathered am chicks
One of my silkie ladies :)
My experimental hatch was a great success! I got 13 babies from 17 eggs set, 3 of which are show girls. All but 1 look like pure silkie babies, even the ones that hatched from the ameraucana eggs. All will be silkie feathered, split for lavender, and have 1 blue egg gene. I'll get some pictures...
Working on it, if they ever start to lay. I have two showgirls right now. One, I have in with the silkie feathered lavender ameraucanas to try to get a blue egg laying lavender show girl (over time). The other, I'm just waiting on her to lay.
I'll be firing up my incubator again tonight and setting eggs tomorrow..... Silkies of course! One of my young black pullets started laying again a few days ago and has been giving them pretty steady. I've had my new roo, Teddy Bear, in with her for the past few weeks. I'm hoping for some...

I lost my Sweet Angel today. She was my first true bantam silkie and such a sweet heart. She was only 2 and a half years old. She was a wonderful layer and only went broody one time. She will be dearly missed. Her daughter Missy has some big shoes to fill.
I use the deep litter method for the main part of the coop using pine shavings but I also have poop boards under my roosts so that when they poop all night, it's easily scraped off and doesn't get mixed in to the shavings. Mine free range all day so they only get in the coop at night or to lay eggs.
