Chicks are super fun. I don't ship chicks, but have silver spitz eggs available in April. If u need chicks, you might check out the spitzhauben fb page. There are several spitz breeders in TX and there might be one close to you. Enjoy chick season! :D
Thank you. The guy in my avatar is a real ham, seems to love having his picture taken.
I hatched a cream spangled spitz a couple years ago and had to really dig to find info on why that may have happened. Hope u find what u need!
I think w cream brabanters it's the recessive cream gene working w gold (ig/ig). If that's the case, then a full cream (ig/ig) crossed with a gold split to cream (Ig/ig) will give you offspring with 50% chance of being cream and 50% chance of being gold split to cream.
There are a couple other...
Very nice! I've found that most of the spitz roos are real nice birds. Trouble occurs when there are too many of them. This past year I wintered 6 roos which was a lot but manageable until spring came & they all wanted to b in charge. I kept them separated as best possible, but would come...
Anyone on here interested in some nice silver spitz cockerels? I have far more than I can keep & these boys are too pretty for freezer camp. Good bloodlines. Vaccinated for Mereks. In NY.
This is where found info on spangle shape:

I hear u on wanting to keep them all, especially the girls. :). Wish I had accommodations for more boys, too. Have a few that I'm gona have a tough time parting with :)
I'd love to see ur spreadsheet. Sounds like a great idea. I've got one I use for all my birds to help figure out who is staying & who is going. However, I don't include the subtle reasons for culling.
Id hold off moving birds w dark crests. I have a couple birds whose dark crests lightened...
Per standard, the spangle should be as V shaped as possible, not inclined toward lacing or round. I suppose that could be called cresant shaped. My eye prefers the round spangles tho I know it's not correct for standard :D. I hear u on waiting so see who the culls are. Their colors change so...
You've got some nice looking birds!
I'm only a couple years into spitz as well, but look to the European standards for direction:

Seems like crest feathers usually lighten as the birds mature. Just the right amount of black in the body is s good...
There's also a fairly active fb group.

I love spitz & highly recommend them. What other breeds do u have?
You might try the Appenzellar Spitzhauben Club of America fb page. There's also an American brabanter fb page. U should be able to find someone in your area for at least one of the two. Both great breeds!
