Yes the cuckoo often had a dark cream egg and they were larger birds than the blues or the mottled. Mottled have a nice white egg. I do like the topline better in my cuckoo, otherwise they were not much different than my mottled. The most markedly "altered" were the Blues with too many faults...
I would not know how to begin that project! How do you find another breed that will not ruin the lack of comb, big nostrils, vulture hocks, hard feather feet, upright stance, white eggs etc? There is not another breed like them that I know of.
Too much to hide/fix...it can be seen already in...
I have several dozen Mottled Breda eggs in the incubators getting ready to hatch in a week or so. If anyone is interested in reserving some, please PM me before I list them. Mareks vaccine included. I ship at 2 weeks old+ as Breda can be fragile early on. All will look like this cute little t-rex
Are they from Dutch Connection? I got my first Cuckoos and Mottleds from her as well. I'm getting better at sexing them after so many but it is really hard until they start to feather out. The roos most often have a much more upright stance, and their waddles are much more red even early, but I...
These are full mottled.....Have raised a few hundred now. The dots on the head as new chicks always means full mottled. The other one you posted will be a split. They either go all black or black with some white ticking. See my post for pics or PM me pics and I will id them for you :)
The ones with the dots on their heads will always be full mottled in Breda (first chick). The next chick down(split) will grow to be all black or mostly black with some white feathers grown...
Chicks are fragile and I find the rare breeds are more so due probably to their tight gene pool. My Breda are on the more fragile side when little, and their growth and maturity rates are very slow, but they turn into pretty hardy chickens as adults.
I have lots of Mottled in eggs, chicks, and some young adults (several roosters). Shipping fine. NPIP ranch. Contact me on Facebook at Rare Feathers Ranch or email [email protected]. I am not in here all that much. I also run an auction of eggs on EBay almost weekly.
Always love your updates. She looks like a big girl. And she has come a long way from the goofy looking little dinos they are as chicks
My mottled are finally laying and I will be locking down my first test batch this week.
I assume two randy roosters or the usual feather breakage . They did not molt out much since they are too young, and they are also still growing. It might just be the pic too. I will take a closer look.
She looks great :) I am happy to hear that she is coming along better. I have so many cockerels to choose from right now, but I need to narrow it down to three... decisions decisions...
Sorry for your loss I know how much you care for your birds. Losing a favorite is always so hard....
My Breda group are my hardiest breed right now so I am surprised, but you never know with chickens! I do have mottled, if you would like to try one of them sometime. I sold off my cuckoo and...
Just mottled and mottled splits now. The splits are pure black and breed well into the Blue groups if interested in one of the cockerels. I mixed my blacks into all three color varieties (when I had the three). I have found that the Mottled have much better conformation overall than the Blue...
Well they made liars of me because I swear I have had more eggs daily this week than hens :) Crazy birds just took a few weeks off. Now everyone seems to be back on the assembly line
Sold to great local home now. They will in their new digs soon. 108 deg today!!!! Stay cool all..
