Medicated chick starter is a solution to a problem caused by sanitation and crowding. IIRR. Big companies and operations want it. Us backyard hobbyists are different and monitor individuals, not flock health. I studied it and decided that we would give medicine if needed. We haven't needed...
I put these 6 on grass in a chicken tractor at 2 weeks. They have never had pasty butt either. Our first go round had several instances and we kept them inside for 6 weeks and feeding higher protein chick starter. Not having to clean the brooder twice daily is very nice.
We are supplementing...
Since MG does NOT sell an unmedicated starter at 20% feed, I am feeding the 18% all flock (grower granules from their website). Will my birds be stunted? Hmm. The bag nor the website gives guidance and that is why I went this way. Wanted unmedicated and this is what my choice is. Unless I...
Please enlighten us as to why that bag said not to feed all flock to young ones. The only thing different on the MG bag is the little label that says what is supposedly in the bag. Curious about this now.
We lounge around in the shade under the coop. Dig down to the wet dirt and lay in that. The misters just don't work here. We get soaked standing around. Beats shoveling snow with frozen fingers! :D
I've piled mulch up around the ramp and the nest boxes for the soon to hatch feed store...
Yes, Florida was nice because it had the breezes. Much nicer than dank, stagnant air. I can see why it is attractive. But when the breezes get over 100 mph, time to head inland.
What is the temperature in the house?
My uncalibrated, cheap Christmas present says 78°F and 63% outside while inside is 70°F & 59%. Nope, not gonna calibrate.
use the weather underground for updates, but I don't know if they calibrate either.
This time of year, we are running 60-80% humidity. Depending on how cold the house is, inside will be drier. Not a lot, but some. 40% if you keep it subartic. But figure high 60s.
Hope this helped.
