Hey Bruce, the other main difference between BJG and BA's is the BJG have yellow skin and yellow soles instead of white skin and pinkish white soles.

Cheryl, It has been a while. The BA thread seems to have slowed down. I am in remission now and taking it day by day. What is the new fad chicken this year? There is always a new one that everybody wants!

You can use a splash Orpington crossed with a good BA to get a blue, but it will take a couple of years to get the confirmation of the offspring to meet the APA standard for the BA body type because they are two different birds although close. It has to be a good Orp and a good BA to start with.
Hello to all my past BA friends. I have sold or given away
all of my BBS Aussie breeding stock that I had for 8 years. 5 coups and pens have now turned into 1 coup and 1 pen. It is much easier to handle now. I did keep 10 Mottled Ameraucanas pullets and a couple of cockerels. I will check the...
Due to personal health issues with myself and my wife the Blue Black Splash Aussie Rattlesnake Ridge Line will be coming to an end. If anybody wants to make a road trip for my breeders or young cockerels that I kept let me know. Fair pricing, I just want the line to continue. Kurt 304-258-9468
Hello BA people. My wife had a major heart attack 4 weeks ago and I have some health issues also, but Pat is doing much better. I have broken down my breeding pens and the future with BBS Aussies is unknown. I will check in on here regularly to keep in touch with y'all.

You are correct about needing 2 blues or a splash and a blue to make a splash. That could also be a light blue that people call a lavender, but it would really be a self blue which would be all the same shade of light blue with no lacing.
Kurt
Same as the Blacks, you will know by the 5th to 7th week who is who for sure. The light colored chick may be a splash. Looks like one of my young splashes. Who is the breeder of the blues and splashes up in your neck of the woods?
Kurt
Half of that is correct. All the white tipped feathers will fall out and be replaced with black ones. They will go thru about 3 juvenile moults and loose the white tips if they are pure Australorps.

Outdoorlover,
You could never tell if you were eating a fertile egg or not. There is no taste difference, and the only way that the cell would grow is with incubation or the hen sitting on them. Just because you buy eggs in the store does not mean they are not fertile, trust me! The good news is...
