    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

Before you flame me to hell, i know this pertains to humans BUT it is something to very carefully consider. This isn't just speculation, it has been documented. I do FF but i want to carefully examine all the facts and i'm wondering if anyone has FF their flock LONG TERM and seen any...

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

Well the reason for getting up early again is to have no food out for the rats to get into, had been putting food in at night so i wouldn't have to get up, i think i'd rather have no food out and get up early than to have rats in there with the hens. NASTY things.

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

UGH, there are rats in my hen coop, droppings and what looks like some food hoarding on the headboard of the 2 doors leading out to the run. NO WAY is there to keep them out. What's weird is it looks like they've been taking the FF and putting it on the board HOW i don't know but it's...

Agree with this, when i add water it covers and i mix it well and it turns into probably cookie dough consistency (not dry but moist) and it ferments fine, my girls don't like it sloppy

Thanks! i will be excited about building them and keeping feed from being knocked out over my yard and molding!! Oh i was talking about FF, not dry pellets. I've been feeding FF since the Summer and there are plenty of lament threads from me about how they were less than enthusiastic about...

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

Thanks, Bee! So i won't worry, then. I gave it a good stir and i probably need to be more diligent in thorougly stirring it once a day, Oh also i started covering it again when i went for a long time not covering it, i cover the plastic bucket with a glass lid BUT it is vented, i have a...

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

Can someone take a look at this pic and tell me if this is mold? it looks like it to me Been ff since Summer and posted often how my birds were meh about it, well around 3 months ago for some reason they gobble it now--nothing different as far as i know. I also have mixed feed, i used to...

I do that, too. i like to offer a little variety, they inhale their FF now that i've added NatureWise Feather Fixer pellets to their organic Scratch n Peck, two of them went through molt and this pulled them through in record time, they look great and have started laying again. And they LOVE it...

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

Thanks, RichnSteph that is exactly what i'm going to do! i found they eat it well that way and mine just doesn't go on forever and ever now like it used to, not gonna sweat it! :)

i think i'll just toss it, they eat the FF with GUSTO now (when it doesn't start stinking like DEATH--not talking about that nice fermented sour smell, this smells off) and they stop eating it when it's like that and i don't blame them, i just won't make as much.

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

One thing my FF is doing lately is after about a week it's smelling so off that i'm throwing it out and the birds won't eat it either. i use Scratch n Peck crumble and a pellet mixed, stir it daily, blah blah etc. It smells sour good until it starts smelling like dog vomit and i have to throw it...

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

Mine are kind of meh about it so i mix dry pellets in with it, trusting they'll eat enough of it if they're hungry. i also give shelled BOSS and a bit of cracked corn in the cold weather

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

Soooo It looks like my hens are molting, they went through a mild molt in August which seemed to take forever and came out of it better than ever, LOL and now WHAM a bunch of feathers everywhere, this one looks worse. I use Scratch n Peck organic Layer feed plus an Organic Pellet food that...

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

Agree, that's how i started. Layer feed, mixed well with water ( i do put a bit of probiotic powder in) stir well and "incubate", LOL. Then when down to a serving or so, repeat process.

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

Can hens molt twice in a year? i think they went through a mild one in August--not a dramatic huge change in their appearance but feathers everywhere for about a month then everything went back to normal (had them on 20% organic layer feed through this) and now just a day or 2 ago am noticing...

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

Decided to add a bit more water to my FF, it's pretty crumbly. Also i let them out to free range during the day and later in the day i bring out the rest of the FF and they do gobble it but it's ANNOYING (LOL) because they like it in a big flat "plate" (which is actually a big planter saucer)...

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

One thing i do is scoop out what they've left in their feeders and after i let them out to free range, put it in a large bowl and they'll eat it through the day, only thing i hate about that is (and this is why i put in new feeders a couple weeks ago) they'll kick and mash it all over. Well i...

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

I don't know... i have 4 hens and i put probably about 3 cups out and now they're starting to pick out the grains/seeds (i feed Scratch n Peck organic layer crumbles) and i'm really kind of getting tired of it all... (in the beginning i used to grind it in a coffee grinder to thoroughly mix the...

No not really, sometimes a few BOOS and they free range. When i have red grapes they eat those :) They're just PICKY. They've been FF for at least 2 months.
