My coop deep bedding goes into my outdoor deep litter run to finish composting.
My deep litter run, and my girls, produce some of the finest soil enhancers, eagerly awaited by our local master gardeners.
I find humidity to be the enemy inside a coop, even well ventilated.
My coop has a wooden floor. I keep 8-10 inches deep pine shavings.
My floor never sees the moisture, always dry.
About once per year, I remove the shavings, and put it in the outdoor very deep litter (12-24") uncovered...

My understanding is that rats/mice are everywhere.
They will congregate and breed where there is available food, water, and shelter.
Look closely around any fast food restaurant and you will see rat bait stations...

I started my outdoor deep litter run, 14'x14', by putting in 20 yards of wood chips.
It covered the run about 18" deep.
It took about 3 years before I really needed to start adding more.
My indoor coop flooring gets pine shavings, 8 - 12" deep.
As there is not enough moisture to properly...
Every situation is different.
My coop is a converted 40+ year old cedar shed.
It is not elevated, sitting on a natural dirt floor.
The coop floor is wood.
There have been areas where the floor has rotted, from the underside, not from my deep litter.
I simply screw down exterior grade...
Depending on your materials, the run will pack down nicely.
My run is 8 - 24 inches deep, mostly leaf litter.
Smells and feels like a forest floor, no objectionable odors, flies, or mud.
