It does make a difference on what you have. I just make a habit to look at most ppl's signature lines on the bottom 90% of posters have their chickens and other animals listed there.

To kind of get back on topic. What is it about chickens in snow....they will run around all day on dry ground when its 5 degrees out but get an inch of snow and no one goes anywhere....atleast mine!

Well....we also have horses, so I will just throw a flake in if its around or soak cubes in water (i dont like the cubes as well because wet feed freezes) But I agree it is expensive, ecspecially given the drought situation in our area. We are lucky because we are born and raised where we live...
I did the same thing with old laundry soap jugs since I didn't need to change them as often but in the end they preferred to stay underneath the coop (its on blocks). This year I will be better prepared for nature's wrath....live and learn!!
I have been lurking for awhile but, since the topic of heat came up. I have LF Brahmas and last summer lost 2 pullets to heat when it hit 103 for about a week straight but its been 10 four about 2 weeks here is good ol South Dakota and they were still out scratching until this weird white stuff...
