Would you eat a chicken that died through sickness, or injury?

I've eaten raw meat a few times. Steak tartar in France; wasn't very keen on that. I've tried raw Yak in Nepal which was quite tasty. They marinate it in stuff which goes a long way to hide the rawness. Road kill wild boar here gets eaten a lot by the locals, cooked I might add.:) I don't have a...

Would you eat a chicken that died through sickness, or injury?

I agree in general that cooked meant is preferable:D if only for the hygiene aspect. But, sushi is very becoming very popular in some of the tapas bars here and when all's said and done it is raw meat.

Would you eat a chicken that died through sickness, or injury?

A point about pathogens. Every year some new strain of an existing pathogen is discovered. It's the pathogens ability to mutate rapidly that makes it particularly dangerous. What is safe to eat today isn't necessarily going to be safe at some point in the future. In order to be risk free one...

Would you eat a chicken that died through sickness, or injury?

Those who hunt and eat what they kill have no means of assessing whether what they kill carries a disease unless the animal looks obviously sick. We tend to assume that the chicken we buy is disease free and trust various legislation to ensure that drugs used in the rearing of food for human...

Would you eat a chicken that died through sickness, or injury?

From what I've read, Mareks doesn't transfer to humans. The intestines weren't ruptured but it's an important point. The type of injury will have a lot of bearing on whether it's wise to eat it.

Would you eat a chicken that died through sickness, or injury?

This is a good point regarding eating chickens that have died through sickness. I spend a lot of time with the chickens here. They come in my house to shelter from the sun. I estimate now that by the time I've recognized that a chicken is sick, rather than having an off day, they may have had...

Would you eat a chicken that died through sickness, or injury?

I would think that food production standards are comparable, Spain would fall under the EU guidelines. In the local village here, you can buy locally produced meat some of it coming from the surrounding farms where I live. I rarely buy meat from a butchers or supermarket. I eat the wild boar...

Would you eat a chicken that died through sickness, or injury?

It is worth bearing in mind that the probability is we eat meat from various animals that are carriers of a number of diseases and certainly in the not so distant past, treated with various drugs to promote growth and combat disease. Given the prevalence of Mareks for example the probability is...

Would you eat a chicken that died through sickness, or injury?

Some of the chickens I look after are growing old. I recently had a hen die at about 11 years old and I have a few in the 7 to 10 years old range. My policy here has been to provide a home for the elderly whether they still lay eggs, or not, until they either die of old age, or contract medical...
