Keeping Chickens When You Have Arthritis.

Once took a tumble sober (because that's how I am - graceful) and twisted my elbow. It hurt for a bit, but then healed up fine. Now about 20 yrs later it aches almost everyday. Btw, every time I read your threads I hear Bobby's voice from King of the Hill. :lau

Keeping Chickens When You Have Arthritis.

I am pretty sure it has to do with my carpal tunnel and some arthritis. I exercise daily and eat well. I know that that doesn't mean that I couldn't have cardio issues. I will call Monday and make an appt. I do not sleep well due to aches and pain. I love my sleep so definitely need to call soon...

Some days I just wonder how I got here to this point. Ugh. I have been told many times to quit putting it off.

My hand strength is really low. I need to get checked out, but I am such a procrastinator and put off medical treatment as long as possible. Which is not helping me as some days I feel like all of my joints are achy and inflamed.

The dome coop is pretty cool. Can the chickens roost on the frame inside the coop? Your silky coop is bigger than either of my coops. Someday I might convert the shed to a coop - got to get the hubby on board with that idea. :)

I have shavings too they are packed pretty tight as well. I am using both right now - see which one I like better or see if I like the combo of the two. My coops are smaller it sounds like as I don't use a whole bag at a time.

So, what are some natural anti- inflammatory supplements? Are there websites anyone could point me to? I have issues with my hands and arms and the strength in them. For instance, I bought some chopped straw which is really packed in the bag. I can barely pull it out due to strength issues. I...

I've been out most of the day today working in the yard. Amazing what a day of rest and cool temps can help you accomplish. I might pay for it tomorrow though.

I think walking is just as effective and not as hard on the knees. :) We walk 2-4 miles a day. I jogged for a bit a few years back, but I get more enjoyment out of walking and hiking.

Keeping Chickens When You Have Arthritis.

So, this isn't really chicken rearing or arthritis. But, yesterday I was prepping an area in the yard to beautify. I might have been out about 2 hours. Today I am run down and sore. My back is aching too. I don't feel like I did a lot and I used to spend all day out there. I'm so sad that I've...

Try 3 lb weights to start with. That ought to give enough resistance. 5s are about the most I use as when I went higher (8lbs and 10lbs), my elbows would flare up too much and it wasn't worth it. If you do more reps with the lower weights, it will all work out. :)

We barely eat out these days once a week at most. I am not a fan of fast food either. ;)

@microchick I think you are right. Seeing a real serving size vs what we think is a serving is key as well as staying active. Also, I try to eat more whole foods vs processed. I think that is also why there are problems with obesity. Look at all of the processed foods we have access to. Even...

Keeping Chickens When You Have Arthritis.

I need for my hubby to come read this thread. I have told him that I just need things more accessible, but he thinks I am just overdoing it with my own physical issues. I don't have nearly as many chickens (or ducks) as most of you and when things become hard, I figure out ways to make it easier...
