I'm no expert on sexing chicks, but I have yet to be wrong with an initial guess on their genders. I use their wings and their faces to tell- if I think a chick looks like a roo then I say it's a roo, if it looks like a hen then I say it's a hen.
Hmmmm.... I tend to have bad luck with yolk chicks. I'm just as much as a newbie to them as you are right now, I've had my first two yolkies this hatch. I'm not completely sure what you should do, but it should probably be different from what I did /:
Don't candle, be patient. They need to lay still and absorb their yolk and blood so they can hatch! Adding a sponge would be good.
With my hatch, so far I have 8 hatched and a few more on the way. The yolkies are in a corner absorbing, gosh I hope they make it...
It's ok, you'll do fine! Not all chicks hatch on their due date for many first timers the chicks are late. Just be patient! I promise it will be fine! (:
