I was having provblems with my chicken's water getting "Lakey"
(barely green with a slight "yuk" smell)
even after adding 3 table spoons of bleach a month to my 50 Gal barrel.
I purchased some sulfer based purifier from my local agri supply,
which worked, but it costs $30 month!!! OUCH...
I am concerned about my pipes freezing in winter...
My next question is this:
if i wrap the PVC pipes in black pipe insulation foam tubes,
will the chickens eat my foam?
if so...
what should I wrap the foam in?
Duct tape?
what do you guys think?
That's such a stupid limitation that you should collect the water anyway
and then fight it when the rain water cops butt in... You will win...
This is America, and this is YOUR land after all...
Your property rights alone should dictate that you own every natural resourse on your property...

Finding a Big HONKIN pickle barrel CHEAP is the real trick...
We happen have a little old guy living nearby who sells them off of his front yard... $15 each!
You can also find them at farmer supply and tractor supply places
but they will NAIL you for $75 each...

Yup... it freezes here in NC.
I plan to pick up some black foam pipe insulation tubes to wrap the pvc pipes inside.
that should keep the pipes from freezing in the winter and keep the water cooler in the summer.

I will probably have to install an overflow pipe... i did not think of that....
as for the brown water...BLEACH add some bleach 1/4 cup per 50 gallons should do it...

Ok... now I am curious... what are thinking of using in there place...?
I will have water hoses coming out of all of my rain barrels, so that I can use the collected water to fill up all of my gallon and rubber waterers. I have a lot of chickens, duck, geese and turkeys, so I have to...
