Yes they have both moved away from the Isabella leghorns as most others have also.
Back then everyone's came from buddy and although many different browns (both lights and darks) have been brought in over the years as far as I know every Isabella decends back to buddy.
I haven't heard of anyone...
Silver duckwing rooster over Isabella hens = SD split to lavender pullets and silver/gold duckwing split to lavender cockerels.
Isabella rooster over SD hens = GD split to lavender pullets and S/G duckwing split to lavender cockerels.
Then it depends which way you went and which way you want to...
The Isabella leghorns were used to create these birds so Kat is familiar with those as well.
The Isabella leghorns are a beautiful bird. They came out in a whirlwind but the craze didn't last long. There's still some around but yes you don't find a lot about them anymore.
You're correct these...
I think you should start a new thread and add a link to this one.
Sometimes when I stubble onto a new thread to me and see it has a ton of pages already I shy away because I don't have time to play catch up through a ton of pages.
You can start a new one and won't have that issue but by adding a...
Thinks for linking to my thread.
At this point I'm not sure just where or when I'll be posting about these birds. If I don't post in this thread I will link to it, refer to it and try to keep it alive.
It's quite an interesting read and full of information.
As well as a resource to clear up some...
@ChicKat
I still havent got a barred lavender duckwing chick to hatch.
Idk why but odds have seemed to not be in my favor for one.
Anyways while I'm still hoping and waiting I decided to start a thread about some of my other colors...
This project is a great example.
I can't really speak for others but seemed like the goal was to take the legbar which has some great qualities like the blue eggs and autosexing and add a new color/pattern.
It started with a legbar crossed with a leghorn.
Just keep the legbar pretty much intact...
Egg genes can be non blue (white) or blue.
One gene of each will produce blue egg layers but won't breed true for blue egg layers.
When bred back to leghorns you're insuring the offspring to carry one non blue egg gene.
Its always been my opinion the egg color would be the biggest issue with...
If you do go back to the leghorn you'll also be going back to white egg genes and away from blue egg genes.
I'd set the two genes for blue eggs then select to improve color with what you have.
I love the exchequer but as of now I've stopped all breeding of them.
I can't find any worth a $h!t. I bred what I had into their 3rd generation and still had poor quality.
Hoping to secure some in the future and work with them again.
Or if these turn out to be simular or the same I will work...
