Also, make sure they aren't too warm, hot chicks get cranky. The temp for week old chicks should be 87 to 88 on the floor beneath the lamp, cool on the opposite side of the brooder. Chicks need things to do too, you don't want them picking at toes and eye balls. I like to put in branches and...
Congrats on all the babies! Near frozen eggs was a risky hatch but you did fabulous! Sorry for some of the losses. :hugs You did wonderful with the assisted hatch, glad the little guy is ok! Great job abd enjoy your chicks! :woot
Oh I am so sorry, :hugs I get this way too, horribly attached, no matter the age of the bird. 💔 Generally if they pip but don't hatch, the humidity was too low or the vents weren't open enough to provide adequate oxygen. Keep in mind too that hatching is the first test on life, hatching is...
Congrats on a successful hatch! :jumpy Yes it takes a while to absorb the yolk, they also spend time detaching themselves from the inside of the shell. Lots going on before hatching. Keep us posted on the others and enjoy your babies!
How is the pipped egg? Babies need to stay in the incubator until fully dry and technically can stay in there a couple of days. Before hatching they absorb the last if the egg yolk and this sustains them for a couple of days.
Congrats on this cutie pie!! :clap 💓 It's normal for eggs to get jostled around inside the machine from chicks running around so no need to worry. I am going to incorporate this rope thing from @gimmie birdies in the future to keep eggs in their place...
Sounds like things are still on track. Make sure your humidity is up, no turning eggs, vents are wide open. Since there is an internal pip, external pipping should happen soon. Don't open the lid unless it's absolutely necessary.
No worries, we all started as newbies at some point! :)
Here is the rubber shelf liner I was talking about, you can get it most discount stores. Cut a piece to fit fairly well under the eggs on the floor...
60 to 65 % humidity is perfect. Try not to let it get above 70 or below 60.
Since these eggs started out so cold, there is no doubt some farther behind, similar to a staggered hatch, some will need lockdown sooner than others. Not the best scenario but these things happen!
If these were my eggs, with ranges of 14-18 days, I'd wait one more day and tomorrow put them...
Here is a diagram of the air cell that should give you some idea of the growth you should see inside the egg. Day 18, technically being lockdown day, if yours are behind in development, when they all get close to this diagrams day 18, you need to go into lockdown. Eggs can stop being turned at...
Cold near frozen eggs need time to come out of the stuper they are in, so some may be behind in development, or all of them. I wouldn't make a decision either way yet on this egg. It looks to me like it's trying to grow and quit at the same time. (It could be on its way to quitting) Sometimes...
