    11th Annual Easter Hatch a Long 2020

We're supposed to get up to 12 inches of snow this weekend. And I just moved 5-week-olds outside with no heat. :barnie

I have ha I have had one of these in every hatch I have ever done. Maybe I will make a greater effort to incubate my eggs vertically.

Eek! My eggs weren't due till Thursday/Friday, but I have one zipping and another pipped! Lol, this is the first time my breed that has a reputation for hatching early has actually hatched early. It is so exciting to take a random peek while walking by and seeing a surprise like this!

Day 14 candle. I had 3 quitters. All from the edges of the incubator. I'm thinking cold spots? It is a Janoel 12. I've been rotating egg placement, but not frequently. Maybe I'll start rotating every time I turn the eggs.

All of the eggs I set for this hatch are developing! And...I have eggs in another bator that started pipping this morning.... I, uh, also have more eggs on the way. I can't stop!

Oh! And just in time for my day 7 candle...I found my flashlight! The kids cleaned their rooms, and there was still no sign of it. So I asked my daughter again, "Are you sure you left it in a bedroom?" " Yes! " "....Wait...could you have left it in Mommy's bedroom?" " Maybe! " It was on...

Montana has been having a mild winter, too! The coldest we got was -27, and that was clear back in early November. It was the first of only two bouts of negative temps this winter. And next to no snow, either. That's what's called Grasshopper Weather -- you may remember what happens if you've...

I have had success with both the advice from Shadrach's article, as well as BantyChooks article on roosters. Good thing, because in my entire life I've only ever had a single "naturally" nice rooster (a Light Brahma). Everyone else has had to learn their manners.

Gosh darn it, my 5-year-old lost my bazillion-lumens flashlight that I use for candling. We've looked everywhere. Now I am stuck with just a wimpy normal flashlight. Sigh...at least my eggs are white.

I make myself feel better about the cost of feed by focusing on how much they reduce our kitchen waste by eating scraps. Luckily, I buy the feed so I don't think my husband knows how much they actually cost us. ;)

I had to set mine early because they were pushing 2 weeks. I think a couple might even be over that! It will be fun to see if we can still get a good hatch! :fl

I've never done a hatch-along. I put Icelandic eggs in my Janoel late on the 19th, so they should be within a day or two of the 12th. I have 20 eggs in my Brinsea that are due in a week--I will probably move my hatch-along eggs into there when it is open.
