This is a blue mug stag I think. He’s from my snake line. He was one of seven eggs I got out of the belly of a big snake I caught in a nest. I killed the snake cut it open got the eggs washed them off and incubated them and all seven hatched. This is the only one I’ve seen with their toe mark...
It’s been sunny here. With a thunderstorm every couple of hours. I’ve been on a clean up project in the yard. I’ve got to get three pens out of the pasture and try to straighten them up enough to use. There’s 16 pens that were damaged. I’d like to get a dozen of those back useable. Removing big...
I took a pretty good hit. I’m still assessing the damage. I had ten pens that the top was blown off. An oak tree about as big as a man can reach around, blew down but it fell between a series of pens and my goat shed. It took down a fence but, overall I’m pretty good. No real water issues. I was...
I just watched a hen be blown to the ground out of a 40’ high roost. It’s getting a little gnarly outside. The eye should pass in an hour or two. I’m trying to fight the good fight, I’ve got most of my brood fowl In secure pens. I have maybe a dozen brood hens loose that I turned out to freshen...
Thanks It comes with the territory here.
I don’t worry much about weather, biggest problem is wind blowing pens over and roosters killing each other or worse pen fighting
Shreveport is well inland from its predicted landfall. It’ll be lucky to still be a hurricane when it gets there but the winds can still do lots of damage at 75mph
Not much you can do for pens in that kind of wind. I’ve got my wire pens anchored but some will likely blow over anyway. I’ll have to do the best I can with what I’ve got
When I was a kid Betsy put 7’ of water in our house.Lost everything. Then Katrina got me again but I salvaged some stuff. I’m a little higher now. But there’s more tornados here
I’m far enough inland that I won’t see any storm surge. It will have degraded a good bit by the time it gets here. Probably less than 90 mph winds. Lots of rain but I’m on a hill and it drains pretty good. All I can do is be close by and try to avert any disasters with roosters. May have...
Last thing I had that threw a spangled was givens hatch it was immediately culled when I saw it coming out. I was never one for spangled chickens
I don’t breed much for color. It’s just a paint job. I want conformation and performance above feather color. That being said I think she ain’t too...
These Roundheads have been solid red for many generations and this pops up.
hate to quote myself but I talked to the guy that these Roundheads come from before I got them and in the last 50 years we have got a total of 3 pullets and 1 stag that came spangled between us
That’s pretty much my take on it too. I don’t think it does much, with the exception of fly control. On the other hand, I don’t see much of a down side either
