I can do the back to back thing as you describe. The problem can be with hens 3 and 4 where they male is close to shooting blanks. Not much of a problem is process repeated next day with hens presented in a different sequence. Having a hen properly covered every third day appears sufficient.

I hadn’t considered the rooster running out of bullets. I figured 3-4 wasn’t a big deal but you may be right

He can cover more than four during a day, just not wham bam thank you mams just a few minutes apart. I do not know what the refractory period needs to be other than it is more than 5 minutes.

Yeah I’m sure a rooster can cover 20 hens. I’ve had walks set up like that but one breeding should keep a hen fertile for a few days so him topping half a dozen a day would keep everybody laying fertile eggs

I’ve been out in the chicken yard hosing the broodpens down to keep it a little cooler. Made me consider running water lines and faucets and an irrigation system. It would keep roosters on cords on more green grass and as a cool down aid

White pullet is silver version of pullet below, or pretty close. Pattern allele like key to making red quill or silver quill when on a dark brown base coloration. Top pullet only 12 weeks so most of barring will be lost by time age of brown version shown.

We survived first day just fine. Old American Dominique started shedding her cloths. Everyone else doing real good, but consumed nothing during most of day.

I have upped the protein of my feed by a couple percent to help with the moult. I’m running electrolytes in the water to help with the stress and heat.

These Roundheads have been solid red for many generations and this pops up.

I have never had a sport like that. My reds and brown-reds do not even throw a white feather.
