Thanks Eliz. She has a nest and we covered it with a box big enough for her but not for him to get in. We gate her in that area because its easier at this point but next year it may be different. If I make it that long. Question: This thread says 'exhibition,' but I have only seen turkeys...

I hadn't read this anywhere and this is OBVIOUSLY our first year trying to raise turkeys. She will have a separate area tomorrow. I had her penned off but she kept trying to get back out that I figured she wanted to be with him and I try to let the animals lead me in what to do. Yes, he is a...

This is extremely disappointing. We have been watching and watching and never see them 'at it' until the other day. How do you suggest protecting her from the tom? She seems fine so far and so far all of the eggs as well.

Elias, for how long do you think Turkey eggs are good for? I can't imagine bating her into brooding only to find all her eggs to old to bother with.

If I leave eggs for the hen how many or how long would a reasonable guess be before she would sit them??

I am about to set three eggs- one is just the prettiest, unassuming thing; cream with rose speckles. She has only laid these three in nearly a week so I have to start here with only the three. I can't find any information regarding humidity other than to have it be over 50%. I am freaking out...

Thank you Arielle. He sure does strutt and fan every possible moment! Should I 'check' fertility with these eggs by cracking them open or us put them in a bator?

This might sounds strange but given the 'cleansing' nature of DE that might not be bad either. Oil and bread, DE and maybe pumpkin if he will eat it as that also has a lot of fiber to clean him out. I think rather than watching what he is eating you might want to feel his crop and watch his...

If you are going to use bread, which isn't a bad idea, oil it first. When chickens have issues like this olive oil given in a syringe is what we use.

The housekeeping cart wasn't ready and waiting at Turkey hotel huh? She might have something bad to say on her comment card. Walmart crates? We do have totes we tried but to no avail. I am actually hoping that in the barn basement where the old antique stairs are stored against the wall it...

I thought I was the only mad upcycler! My partner HATES this about me. He thinks everything looks... bad. I would like to ask Mr Jim if you are using 5 gal buckets (and your birds are NOT small so I am amazed they fit in there) how are you attaching them to each other?? A wall of buckets or...

Where did you get this information? I have seen a few different stats. It might be a confusion with the Beltsville or poor breeding (which in this breed's case means they are being bred too big, since they are supposed to be pretty small.) I am totally okay with a MW being the size you listed...

Here's a few more of my Tom showing off. It was nice enough today to go out for a while. Birds always look better on grass. He was so funny. I said "hi turkey" this morning. He gobbled loudly. I said it again and he gobbled again. We did this probably 7 times in a row just...

AOXA.... tell me, who really keeps their barn that pretty? Geez. lol Would love more details on how you are building over frozen ground. I was reading the Mass Fish and Game information and a study that looked at a lot of what wild turkeys ate through each season. I will go back and look...

Aoxa.... I am sure glad mine prefer the barn for now. I would like to give them a tall aviary because I don't want to deal with birds on the roof (as opposed to a tree) pooping everywhere. Mine range as well -- so far. Mine is doing that watery sounding "gooongooongooong tsick!" in the barn...

Aoxa! Hey welcome to the quietest thread I am in lol What lovely pictures. That one of the bird in the frozen pool is funny. I know someone else here with Palms. Do you show yours? Yes Arielle. I have to get over the maintenance of sop and breed preservation ethics I have first...
