I remembered to look today. The card I have that says I am allowed to drive says “Driver’s License” on it. It is proclaiming that I am the driver, and the license is mine.
It seems that all three would be correct. “Driver’s license” - the license belongs to the driver. “Driving license” - a license to drive. I would think “Driver license” would be the same as a “driving license”. I will be checking my license as soon as I get a chance to see what I’ve got.
I’m pretty sure my autocorrect waits until after I hit “send” to change things. I try to proofread before sending, but when I read what I’ve posted, it’s like a whole different message sometimes.
Ah, the old “me/I” issue. I have heard something like this out of people: “Jack and I’s hair was too long so we got haircuts.” How about “Jack’s and my hair”, or even more simply, “our hair”.
As far as the other examples go,I was taught this way: “The teacher gave homework to everyone but Jack...
