Setting eggs the week of May 7th (Here's to wishing the best this time)!!!!!!!!!

I candle my shipped eggs to see if the air cells have ruptured during shipping. This current hatch, I received 11 eggs and one quit and only 3 ever grew. When I candled these eggs the night I got them I could see that most of the eggs had air cells that were ruptured with free floating bubbles...

Setting eggs the week of May 7th (Here's to wishing the best this time)!!!!!!!!!

I finally was able to put the last chick with the broody hen last night. It is from the egg that the broody abandoned that I had to finish hatching in the incubator. It was 3 days behind the other 5 since another chicken sneaked an egg into he nest box along the way. I have 9 bantam buff...

Setting eggs the week of May 7th (Here's to wishing the best this time)!!!!!!!!!

You might want to take them out and carefully take part of the tops off and see if any are alive. One time I had decided to do an eggtopsy on the eggs that didn't hatch and on day 23 found a live chick shrink wrapped in the unpipped egg and it survived! It was VERY unusual though. Usually it...

Thank-you, and yours is as cute as can be! The egg the broody abandoned hatched about an hour ago Looks like a big, blue laced red rooster.

Setting eggs the week of May 7th (Here's to wishing the best this time)!!!!!!!!!

Looks like your chick has splayed legs and that is why it can't stand. Use some non stick tape (blue painters tape) and wrap it around each leg connecting them. This will pull the legs together and he will be able to stand. I have never had to do this so I don't have a picture to show you, but...

Setting eggs the week of May 7th (Here's to wishing the best this time)!!!!!!!!!

Did you pat the chick with paper towels to get it as dry as you could before putting it back in the incubator? It is humid in the incubator so it may take awhile for it to dry. For the curled toes you can use some medical tape and lay the chicks feet (straightening the toes) on it gently...

Setting eggs the week of May 7th (Here's to wishing the best this time)!!!!!!!!!

Here is a picture of my broody black laced red Wyandotte hen with 3 of the chicks. She hatched 2 and one I hatched in the incubator. I have two more in the brooder I hatched waiting to fluff up before I give them to the hen. When they chicks got hungry and left the nest, mom deserted the two...

The chicks should be good for 48 hours. That is how long the yoke feeds them. You've got a bunch of cuties there!

Setting eggs the week of May 7th (Here's to wishing the best this time)!!!!!!!!!

Best to leave her alone. The incubator shouldn't be opened until all your chicks have hatched or you risk the other chicks shrink wrapping due to a drop in humidity. There is really nothing you can do for her anyway. In time the yoke will get completely absorbed. Sounds like your humidity was a...

Setting eggs the week of May 7th (Here's to wishing the best this time)!!!!!!!!!

That's wonderful! I have saved many a shrink wrapped chick, even one that didn't even pip! I discovered it while doing an egg-topsy The sticky stuff is hardened egg white, so it is best to run its wings under warm water gently rubbing with your fingers to dissolve the goo. New chicks are so...

Setting eggs the week of May 7th (Here's to wishing the best this time)!!!!!!!!!

Update on the chick I had to take away from the broody~ I kept it in the incubator overnight and it is doing great. Another egg under the broody hatched and she was taking care of that one better (keeping it under her wing instead of sitting on it) so I gave her back the chick that I had to...

Setting eggs the week of May 7th (Here's to wishing the best this time)!!!!!!!!!

Once a chick pips it sits and absorbed the yoke. Once the yoke is absorbed the chick starts to zip like your chick has done. If they start zipping and make no progress it means they are stuck. Looks like it is time to help the poor guy out.

Setting eggs the week of May 7th (Here's to wishing the best this time)!!!!!!!!!

Last night I checked the eggs under my broody hen and found a chick that was not in good shape. It had not absorbed all of the yoke and it was still attached to a very thin, crushed shell, plus it was getting squished! I had to remove it and put it in the incubator with the other eggs I am...

Setting eggs the week of May 7th (Here's to wishing the best this time)!!!!!!!!!

If the membrane has turned yellow instead of a nice dry, papery white, then the chick has shrink wrapped and won't be able to hatch on its own. If you open the incubator to help I would add some extra humidity (since you will loose some when opening your incubator) by adding a wet piece of...

Since you had a number of eggs with bacterial growth, you might like to try an Oxine egg dip on your shipped eggs next time around. I have just discovered Oxine and it is a wonder solution! I did the egg dip on my shipped bantam eggs and 10 out of 11 are growing and doing great. I also made up...

Oh boy! Are your eggs from your Brahmas? I have 9 bantam buff Brahma eggs in my incubator due to hatch June 6th. They were sent to me from a BYC friend in Michigan and all but one egg is growing! Your Brahma colors sound beautiful!

Setting eggs the week of May 7th (Here's to wishing the best this time)!!!!!!!!!

Thanks My Polish will be mixed as well. My rooster is a bantam buff laced and my one buff laced pullet was molting, so I don't think any of these eggs will be pure buff laced. The eggs are probably from my WC chocolate cuckoo and blue with cuckoo markings girls. I am curious to see what...

What a great looking bunch of chicks! So glad the babies that were stuck are doing well. I have had several that I had to un-glue and they have done just fine. Looks like you have some fun colored Polish chicks. I have 4 Polish eggs from my girls due to hatch June 6th. I LOVE my Polish...
