If you have a meat thermometer, toss that in there to see where you're at too. And a human thermometer. Between all of those, you will have a better sense of it some measurement is way off.
I put a thin soft rubber mesh mat in the bottom of mine for hatching after taking out the turner. Makes cleanup easier and no toes in slots. I think it was roll drawer liner I custom cut to fit IIRC.
When this happens for me, I just take the turner out and put them vertically in a paper egg carton with the bottoms cut off (just a bit, enough for air, but not the eggs to fall out) and rotate and tilt them manually for the first 7 days. After that, the air cells stabilize enough that you can...
Good point. They're shipped anyway, so maybe I'll put them into cartons and incubate vertically for the first few days while everyone finishes hatching.
As for dirty eggs, I just tried to hatch a dozen, and nearly all of them have quit. I can only assume due to bacterial contamination. No...
There is definitely a baby kicking in the egg in the first pic. But I've never seen that egg wiggle. This is nailbiting journey for sure! I'll open up a new thread if I have anymore questions, instead of hijacking this purpose specific one :)
Edit: Hatching is happening!!! We have 2 wiggly...
Here are 4 of my 6 eggs, day 19....
Thoughts? These guys got down to 38% humidity around day 12 for up to 6 hours. while I was sleeping. They definitely continued to get more opaque since then, so babies didn't die I don't think. IDK why.
Should I be worried if my 2 wiggly eggs no longer wiggle? Day 19, one day in lockdown. Temp is stable at 99.5-100 and humidity at 75-76%.
Edit: they all look right in terms of air cells and opacity and stuff. But no obvious movement inside. (I haven't touched them since lockdown, just a...
I'm at 73 percent now. Day 18. Only 2 of my 6 eggs are wiggly. The rest looked the same as these though when I candled, and nothing smelled gross. Should I worry?
Honestly, I'm doing so poorly at this, I will be surprised if I get any chickens. But we'll find out! I have 6 eggs, 2 have wiggled, and all 6 look viable.
Alright, we are now sharing an office. The humidity doesn't seem to be getting above 59 tho. Any tips on how to increase? I've got the whole vent opened as the instructions said. And the A and B pots both have external water levels.
Edit: Ok, it's climbing, but veeeery slowly. Made it up...
I have this same incubator. The newest version. I foolishly incubated days 1-18 in a non-cat safe area and need to move the incubator for lockdown as peeping, wobbling, and hatching will be irresistable to my kitten and my mouser.
This is my first hatch ever (witness my lack of foresight)...
