I just assisted six chicks. The humidity went haywire and they all got to a point of needing the help. I even had to pip externally AND internally on one of them. They are all doing great now, I'll try to post pics tomorrow. Great test of patience, spent the last twenty four hours nibbling away...
If your light is underpowered, don't give up on an egg until 14 days, even with a low powered light, that's when you'll know for sure one way or another.
Yes, they are developing fully, just not able to get out in time. I read the dry hatch method, I think I'm going to try that. We have a cabinet incubator and 4 little giants to hatch in. I'm just bummed we lost all of our Cream Legbars....
Well, we do have 1 of the dozen or so we locked down.... An extra large Black Orpington. I believe we had an issue with temperature and the chicks got too large to position good... Here is the lucky little guy that made it.
We seem to be having a huge problem hatching lately, every thing is going great until the 29th day, we have a lot that never pip.... Any ideas? Also, when do we know if pipping for them is the only option left?
We counted our black orps in the cabinet incubator, we have 35 now, been a good winter for them so far!! We're getting like 18 eggs a week from 3 hens!!
We have a Cream Legbar pipping now too, the silkiie didn't make it, we had a youngster wake up before us and tried to help it out :(
Forgot we also set 10 Cream Legbar eggs, I can't wait to watch them grow up!!
