Thanks! Haha, bantams are everywhere! It is very hard to find the large fowl, but maybe I will. I am very happy I was able to get 2 of each. I can't wait to see what colors the seramas end up being and one of the silkies is white, my first white one so far :)
Sorry I have been MIA lately. Class started back up and I have been very busy with it and the chicks and the rest of my flock. The chicks are doing great! I'm still trying to figure out how to post some pics since I used my Nikon to take them and my (very old) mac doesn't have a card reader...
@darkbluespace thank you! Chick count is up to 2 with the 3rd almost out of the shell and yet another pip. So far 2 seramas and one white silkie! Super excited!
We have a chick! And another egg is zipping right now, it's a silkie though. And another Serama is pipping! This is such a relief since the power outage!
I assisted a little. Chipped away some of the shell. I also broke the outer membrane at the air sac just a bit. I'm noticing more movement from the chick and louder peeping. If she doesn't progress I'll help more.
I have one egg with an external pip so far!!! Is there anything I need to do? It looks to be in the right area of the egg. The humidity in the incubator is terribly low. It's dropped to about 25%(from 65% in 2 days).
@darkbluespace my incubator has the hardest time holding humidity and I'm so worried about it. Any tips? I used sponges as well. Also, I heard somewhere Seramas can hatch as early as 19 days. Is that true..?
Today is lockdown! I just got everything situated, did my last candling. I removed one that I had left in at last candling. I wasn't too sure, but it was evident today that it wasn't developing. For hatch, do all vent plugs come out? Also, what is optimal humidity for hatch?
Just candled again. I'm so unsure when it comes to candling, but I think everything actually looked okay. Today is day 14. @darkbluespace your encouraging words have put me at ease a bit. I certainly hope I still get some babies out of this hatch
I sadly had a power outage the night before last. The incubator got pretty chilly before I was able to get it to another power source. We do not have any backup generators or heat sources. I'm unsure of the damage yet. I'm almost sure I lost them all, but I don't want to give up hope before I...
Wishing you luck @darkbluespace!!
Candled on Saturday. All but 4 seemed to be developing. However I'm not entirely sure so I'm going to leave them in a bit longer to be sure. I feel like I still have a lot of research to do. I've been having a hard time keeping the humidity levels within range...
Oh my! That's so exciting! You'll have to post pictures of the chicks due NYD! Such a great way to start the new year! I've only had chickens since this last May so I'm still learning the ropes. These will be my first Seramas. Now I mainly have cochins, silkies, and EEs.
